I have just one tiny door ding the size of a dime. I was reading online and someone suggested heating the door ding with a hair dryer and then applying dry ice. This was said to remove most small dents that do not have creases in them. Has anyone tried this and does it really work? I don't want to damage the surrounding paint by applying dry ice if it's a gimmick.

It's not a gimmick and the dry ice won't damage the paint. You could always pull the door panel off and use your thumb to push the ding out.

Great! I'm going to give it a try this weekend and I'll let you know if it worked.

I've had friends who had to have their cars repaired after a hail storm and that's what the autobody shops do. Hail stones ouch car looked like some one hit the car a couple hundred times with a ball peen hammer.

Well.. the dry ice didn't do anything to remove the door ding after several attempts but on the bright side of things.. it did almost leave me with frostbite even through some thick gloves. jawdrop

This method is very tricky. It sounds real simple, but it takes a "certain touch" to make it happen just right. I've heard of a couple of guys who have tried it themselves, but never had any success. A good body man who has that "touch" can do it in no time at all.

Yeah, I tried it last summer when it was really hot outside but couldn't get it to work at all. I would think it takes a special touch to do it since I'm pretty clueless when it comes to body work (or anything for that matter).

Also, someone might have better luck on a more recent dent since metal tends to hold it's shape over time.

Well.. I found one more small ding on the rear quarter panel so I might try the "ding king" tool. I've been told that it works but takes a very long time to remove a dent.

It's strange.. when I bought the car I looked closely for imperfections and found none. This dent is so very small but now that I know it's there.. it seems to stand out like a sore thumb.

I've got a couple of dents on my drivers door, looks like a shopping cart hit it, they're small but noticable. It was there when I bought the car. I had one guy pull me over to give me a bid to get it fixed. I told him there was no way in hell I was going to pay him $300 for something that is pure cosmetic. I told him I would rather take the $300 and get some performance out of the car. He came down to $250, kept telling him it ain't going to happen, it's pure cosmetics and won't help me go faster!

If you've got them in your area, try a place like Dent Doctors or Dent Wizard, which specialize in just removing dings, as long as no paint was lost. Usually they'll come right out to your location, and fix each dent or ding for about $50 or so. It might be worth doing that instead of the dry ice thing.
