Welcome to the group.

Okay...depending upon what you want to do and your budget...here we go:

U-bend delete
Cat-back exhaust
180 T-stat
Cold Air Intake
GMPP Handling Upgrade
Brake Upgrade
Lowering Springs/Struts
PCM
Cam
Rockers
Pistons
Hell, add a turbo

Someone else can add to the list 'cuz my hand is tired from writing fast.

I would search the site and look at some of the members car mods for a better list but typical stuff would involve a PCM, cat-back, intake, u-bend, tb,.....look on

the first thing that I did was remove the U-Bend, I also made a cold air intake.

also put in a drilled 180* T-Stat (mostly just becouse I flushed the coolant when I got the car and wanted to replace it anyway).

I modded my stock air box (numerous slots and holes) a drop -in K&N filter and better exhaust. all-together I've got barely over $300 total tied up in mods. The car sounds great, runs great and still knocks down 30mpg hi-way on 89 fuel!...welcome aboard, cuz these are great cars!
hammer just cuz its spring! (hey, we can wish!)

Start with the basics....intake & exhaust. For the exhaust your main concern is the down pipe & u-bend cause those are the most restrictive parts. If you do headers that will take care of the dp & u-bend.

There are quite a few cold air intakes out there. Wizaired from ZZperformance is the best, but you can build your own fenderwell setup.

If you don't get headers, get ported exhaust manifolds. From there do anything from framos's list, but it's not limited to just that.
