Driving to work on Friday I heard a huge CRACK from my car (I was boxed in behind a stupid semi truck).

Didn't notice any damage when I got to work, but when I got home I noticed a paint chip about half the size of a dime. What's the best way to touch this up?

If there is not a good way, I'm wondering if I should go to a fiberglass hood.... devilgrin

You can get touch-up paint from the dealer. I don't remember it being too expensive.

Yeah I know, but I've never done a touch up before and don't want to butcher it.

How good will it look with touch up and clear coat? Still visible?

The chip has bubbled a little too, what is the best way to "flake off" the bubble?

If you take it to a good body shop the can feather it in. But make sure you go to one that has experience doing this. It is very tricky to try yourself.

What kind of cost would you say?

Touch up paint isn't too hard. You have to be pretty steady and exact with it. If you get it onto the car's paint job, it will look sloppy though.

This is the best way to fix your rock chip. Anything short will look like pure "dookie".

A chip the size of a dime will be noticeable unless redone by a professional bodyshop. I take it, this is the red GTP i see with your name. I speak from 31 years experience in the trade. Red can be a hard match even with the paint code at times. As far as a glass hood i would stay away, even though there are many decent pieces out there the glass will eventually hair line spider crack from that next impact and will look much worse than just an unfortunate chip, HTH.

Yeah man that is why I never follow trucks. My dealer sent me a free bottle of touch up, which unfortunately I've had to use. It's never going to come out that great yourself, but what can you do? Got to drive the thing to work everyday.
