My check engine came on today while i was out of town...Thankfully it stayed on, so i went by autozone and had it scanned...I know i've seen this exact same post b4...The catalyst system efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operating conditions. Autozone guy said either rear o2, or cat converter...first ? is are the front and rear o2's the same? I saw some on ebay but it doesn't specify front/rear. 2nd should i expect anything terrible to happen while i'm getting the money together to get it fixed.

Sounds like its either the cat going bad or the rear O2 going bad. I believe the two O2's are different but could be wrong on that. The 2nd O2 just tells the PCM that the cat is doing it's job right, so it could be either items going bad.
How many miles are on the car? There was something going around about Pontiac doing recall type work on GP cats... maybe look into that.
Also how long ago did you get your ubend delete done? O2 sensor can easily get damanged during that work.

ubend deleted early in December, 117,000 on the car.

Yes, the O2 sensors are different.
My money is on the rear O2.
BTW, there was a cat recall. Forgot which year. Was it '02?? Someone else will have knowledge.

so the recall was for just 2002 grand prixs, or it was in 2002 for all grand prixs?

I have the same reading on my Light. But I recently replaced the rear o2 with a good one.
Has anyone replaced the cat with an aftermarket one?

I got a recall letter from pontiac for my 2001 GT. I'm not the original owner though, and haven't had any issues, so I haven't done anything yet.
