Hey Guys,
In my GTP and 2.4L Z24 I have "hot air intakes" and I've been monitering my IAT's. Now, while I'm cruising around 60mph in my Z24 I only see about 5-10* above ambient. In the GTP It's always about 35-45* above ambient! I know S/C's produce heat and it's a bigger engine, but is this normal? confused Is it because my car doesn't have that lower airdam that directs air into the radiator? Please advise.
Thanks!

Pop the hood and remove the weather strip/rubber seal that runs along the rear below the wipers. It should just pull off. Report back after that.

I'll try that. I'm also going to order that lower airdam to see if it helps. Any other ideas?
Thanks.

When running a WAI, there isn't much you can do. Just promote airflow and have at it. Buying a smaller filter and shoving it in the opening where the fender resides is the easiest solution.

If haven't already done it, you could install a 99+ coolant tank. The '98 coolant tank is a big obstruction for airflow to the filter.

Yeah, I already have it placed by the strut tower. You would think it should get a lot of airflow while the car is moving since it's right behind the headlight. The Z24 has the filter in back of the battery and still gets a lot more airflow.

When are you taking your readings? Last summer I did a little experiment. I put in a digital thermometer and compared air temps both inside a CAI box and out side. I found the CAI only really helps at idle where under hood temps get over 150*F once you get moving the temps from inside the box and outside at same speeds/rpms were with in 5* of eachother. At that time I still had my coolant tank in the stock position behind the headlight.

But you gotta remember your running data on two totally different chassis designs.

I scan with my LS1m daily, especially in the morning when it's nice and chilly around here. I really think that lower airdam has a lot to do with it. In my GTP, at idle it gets really hot, like you said, but while moving the temps hardly go down. When they do, they take a long time.

Ok

Yes you need that airdam to deflect that air up. and that will make a big difference.

Se now if you had a FWI as soon as you start moving the temps go odwn by the tens. In NY its about 20-30* this tiem of year. I scaned my car and saw that when I'm sitting for more then 10 min the IAT go to about 80*+ and riseing. As soon as I move and have the car moving the IAT goes from 80 to 60 to 40 the it takes some tiem to get them to 30 but it gets there.

Also the are you takeing about the front airdam on PFYC, when looking at that thing it covers your orginal bumper, it doesn't deflect air up, I thought it was jsut for show.

Hi Ray,
I'll trade you intakes! Actually it's the stock air deflector that's under the car below the radiator. It's suppose to direct the air upwards. Well It get's here in a few days, the parts place had to order it as it was not in stock. I'll let you guys know if it makes a difference in my car.

It will work. Just look at how small the openings are on the front of our cars.

I don't know if I understand what "air dam" you all are talking about. How would I know if I have one on my car? What does it look like?

get down on the ground and look from the front. you should see a thin black piece of plastic dangling down below the radiator support. It's held on with springs so it will swing when hit.

BTW, if anyone would take a pic and post it here so I can see how it's attached, that would be awesome! thumbsup
