Not sure if it was on here, or somewhere else... but I read somewhere about changing oil for the supercharger??? Honestly, I thought they were just belt driven. Boy do I need to do more research and learning.
Anyway, if thats the case. What kind of oil??? How do you go about changing it???

They are belt driven, the oil keeps everything inside properly lubricated so it doesn't break something. There's a little black plug on the front of the s/c, on the side that the engine is on. I think it take a hex to unscrew, and be warned, if the oil is old at all .. it will smell godawful. There's tons of ways that people get the old oil out, pick your poison. Some use syringes, some use basters, et cetera. Undoubtedly, you'll get many replies on how to do it. To refill it takes just under two bottles of GM supercharger oil, which should be 7-8 dollars apiece at any GM dealership near you. Don't use anything else. Don't use motor oil, don't use water, nothing. ONLY GM s/c oil. I don't think anyone has tested any aftermarket s/c oil on a GTP, so use that at your own risk if you so choose. Edit: Oh, also, if you take it to the dealership, odds are they'll tell you they have to take the supercharger off to change the oil. They charge well over 100 bucks for that, and they're lying; you don't have to take it off.

make sure to try and get ALL the oil out because if you dont youll have some excess runoff into the injector valleys. then it burns up and your car will smell awful for a while. i just changed my broken snout with my good one and didnt get all the oil out. not the greatest smell.

I just turned my S/C upside down and let it all drain out. Then I took the nose off, replaced the coupler, and wiped even more of the gunk out. Might not be helpful if your S/C isn't off the car though. ![laugh laugh](/forum/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif)

I've been using Castrol Syntec 5W-50 for almost 5 months/8,000 miles and no issues. $7 for a quart of it... good for two changes.
I know I'm gonna get some backlash for this, so if you try it, try it at your own risk. I take no fault or responsibility if it doesn't work for you.... as they say "your results may vary"

I called the GM dealer and asked them what the oil was... and I was told any 5W-50 synthetic would work. So far, they were actually right about something ![jawdrop jawdrop](/forum/images/graemlins/default/jawdrop.gif)

I'm running ZZP's bulk crap, whatever they sell. Cheaper than the GM stuff.

I've never heard of that combination. Props to you for quite possibly "taking one for the team".... ![wink wink](/forum/images/graemlins/default/wink.gif)
