i have a 97 gp gt and was reading where there is alot of transmission trouble with them mine is doing ok for now but i was wanting to know what other transmissions from other vehicles would work with this vehicle if i needed to get another one

well you have the 4t60e transmission while the newer gp's have the 4t65e or in the GTP's case the 4t65e-HD....needless to say grand prix trannies suck, i speak from experience. but if I were you I would upgrade to a performance tranny from zzp performance

Your car would need one from an older vehicle also running the 4t60e (older Bonnies and Montes in particular). Swapping to the 65 takes some effort since the 60s are controlled by vacuum, 65s are all electronic.

Actually late run 97s came with the 4t65e. Easy way to tell what tranny you have is open the hood. On the drivers side is the tranny. If it has vacuum line on top of the tranny case its the 60 if it has a wire plugged in its the 65e.

But All W bodys used it and some other of GMs FWD cars did.

There's another way. Pop the trunk and look at the RPO code list. M15 is the 65 tranny. smile
