Ok guys my name is kevin. I have a few questions if you dont mind. Im looking at a 1997 grand prix gtp today. The car looks nice but i have a few questions about it. The car has 135000 miles on it. Is there anything i should worry about with that many miles? Intake gasket? supercharger? He also said recently the blower motor only works on the highest setting. from what i read here is its the blower motor resister. Please help me with any issues i should know about before buying this car. Thank you

Welcome to the club.

Yes, that is the blower motor resistor causing that problem.

Check underneath the rockers and see the damage. If it's the consistency of swiss cheese I would pass on the car as it would most likely be pretty expensive to safety/certify the car with rotten rockers.

As for the motor and trans, take it for a test drive and see how it shifts.

The motor doesn't really have any common faults except maybe the s/c coupler but that is not a big deal. If the coupler is gone it will make a rattle at idle. If it is rattling, ask the guy to knock the price down as, according to GM, the s/c is not a 'serviceable unit' and the whole thing would have to replaced. But to fix that rattle is a $20 piece and about an hours work.

Check for leaking oil or coolant or other fluids.

If it drives nice and isn't completely rotten underneath then go for it.

Welcome to the site! Hope the buy goes well.

Check to see if there's a lot of gunk on the Lower Intake Manifold (LIM).

Other than that, the 3800 series I, II, and III were all VERY solid performers. Just about bullet-proof.

The trannies are known to be weak in these cars, 'specially if the car was driven hard.

Thanks guys. The car has never been out of south carolina so there is no rust issues at all. He wants 2800 for it.

Here is a pic of it

Welcome aboard! If it hasn't been upgraded to the aluminum LIM gaskets , consider getting it done asap, so you won't have to replace the engine bearings like I did when I bought my GP.
