Considering how many other projects you have tackled, I tend to agree with previous posts. Swap the parts in yourself and then have someone put a vacuum pump on and refill your system.
Unless your real motivation is wanting another car and this is a usable excuse (you wouldnt be the first to use this ploy...I've done it myself) but even at $800, thats way less than another ride.
If you want another car, it okay, you can say it, we wont rib you for it :rolleyes: (not much anyway)

I was looking online and I can get a pressure-tested condenser for $75 shipped and replacing it myself shouldn't be *too* bad (I gotta bleed my coolant anyway, why not just redo it)
There is one little issue though. I'll have to run south of the border (damn Wisconsin laws) to get some r134a lol!
Whoever you get to evacuate and recharge the system should be able to supply the refrigerant...if you need to upgrade to a newer formulation then you will need a different orifice, but those are easy to come by.
Just a thought before you go driving along way for something to be had locally for cheap.
