I know there are red coolant types out there, but...yeah...I'd have that nastiness flushed out and replaced just for good measure. Also, for sheer paranoia, I'd go with green and not DexCool now that you've seen that.

I've had that same gunk in my radiator before as well. I did as Rick suggested and replaced it with the green coolant.

doing the lim gaskets on the car, we ended up just just flushing what we could out and then put the dexcool back in it. i knew we wouldn't get it all out and we already had the dexcool so we just put it back in the car. it's your call though, you could drain it and flush the system and then put what ever you feel comfortable putting back in, just remember, don't mix the stuff!

Good ol' Dexcool. That junk was in my lim, radiator, you name it. Even if you flush it out and get it clean, it will just come back if you use dexcool. I changed to green and I'm not looking back. Just listen to what was stated above; don't mix dex with green, so flush it good.

It almost does look a little mixed. Maybe its just because of the flash.
Many people swap out the Dex-cool and put in the conventional green coolant. Yes, the Dex-cool has issues. The problem is these cars were designed for the Dexcool. Their are chemical differences here at play and I have heard arguments on both sides of the fence on this.
Dexcool really gets nasty as it ages. I would defiantly replace it well before GM's recommendations. Their was even a lawsuit on the matter. I haven't seen the actual verdict but apparently, this cost GM millions from the settlement.
Maybe the universal coolant is best suited for these cars?
I just read about the settlement but remember it was going on. Anyways by the looks of it, if the Dexcool did cause you money in repairs, you were entitled to some of it back. Either way you still lost out. The ones that made out were the attorneys. If it wasn't for them, I think most people would have gotten most of their money back that was lost due to the Dexcool issues. Yes, GM got off easy on this. Not only that, I don't think you can even collect on it due to the bankruptcy.
Just wait till the brake lawsuite comes out. Eventually people will wake up and form a class action lawsuit on the cheap rotors.

cheap rotors are a safety issue, yeah, but a BUNCH of folks did like I did: replace with a higher-quality component. In my case PowerSlot slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads on all four corners. The cost of the performance rotors was marginally higher, true, but it was WELL worth the cost increase once I realized what brake power I was missing out on. Next up is the FBod Mod using the slots and HPS that I have sitting in the dining room right now.

There is a "green" replacement that is compatable with Dex. If you use that you won't have to worry if you got all the Dex out or not.

Herc, O'Reilly's sells a green stuff that claims to be compatible with all types of green and orange coolant, to include DexKill.
