Driving down the highway to school today, and my car kept flashing the SES light at me, when suddenly i heard. *Boom* from under the hood. As I accelerated up the hill to get to a safe place to pull over, my car was at total loss of power and sounded like a airplane propeller smacking a metal pole. I pulled over, turned the car off, and got out.

It was raining of course, because when it rains, it pours in my case. I looked around on the engine, and noticed a spark plug wire dangling.

My car threw an effing plug!! The plug was like, destroyed, covered in oil, and the electrode was, umm, gone? I got it towed to a shop and they're gonna look at it to see what the problem is. Hopefully the damage isn't too fatal.

Does anyone know what this could've been right off-hand?

Plug not properly seated? Was it a rear cylinder?

Good luck.

It was a front cylinder. The 5th cylinder to be exact. Autozone checked the check engine light and said it was a misfire in cylinder 6, but cylinder 5 is the one that threw the plug. I think it might be the plug that I took out to check about 2 weeks ago to see if my plugs are still in good shape, and I guess I could have possibly cross threaded the plug when i re-inserted it. Are there any really bad after effects of cross threading a plug, other than having a misfire and a thrown plug?

I know!! That's just how my luck has always been though. I was all ready to install that tomorrow before work, and now it'll probably be in the shop for a couple days. Now I'm just sitting here staring at this new coolant bottle and open cone setup, bummin' out cuz I have to wait to install it. I just want my baby back!!

Mine did that.. kinda. I ended up welding a straight pipe in place of the cat, and now I have a nice drone. =) Check your exhaust system for backpressure, could be part of your problem.

Hmm, cross threaded plug, that was the only problem. The guy pretty much called me an idiot for cross threading it but I shamefully agreed with him that I am an idiot. He tapped out the cylinder head and put a new plug in. Hmm, I could've done that myself dammit, I thought it had a lot more internal damage, but I lucked out this time. Maybe I should be more careful next time I reinsert a plug....If i can get a decent picture of the plug that my car threw yesterday, I'll post it up. The guy let me keep it wink
