I want to flush my PS and the procedure involves removing the return line so it can drain into a container and plug the pump inlet and than pour PS fluid into the pump. that seems like a PITA since the pump is in a godawful location. someone said take off the pass wheel and try and go thru the wheelwell to reach the pump. that also seems hard. any good tips on doing the flush? besides paying a shop to do it?

Those are your only options. Why do you want to flush the PS?

the steering seems stiff. I have a 97GTP now and the 98GT I had before was much easier. I don't have any leaks or moans. it just feels like it has low boost. I have heard that flushing can make a difference. changing fluids is a good thing. coolant, tranny, oil, brake fluid. it makes me feel better.

The 97s had a problem with the stearing rack. The PS fluid isn't a fluid that routinely gets changed just topped off. That's why they make it a PITA to change.

Power steering fluid is just as easy to change as transmission fluid. Just suck it out through the filler opening, then add new fluid. Do this every time you suck your transmission fluid, and it should be just fine.

sucking works but forcing fresh fluid into the rack seems better. of course once i am laying under the car and look up the distance from the rack to the PS pump should only be about 1 ft. now, if that darn subframe was not in the way. or half shaft or ?

Suck the trans fluid? Takes too long. I just loosen the pan loosen the rear bolts more tilt the pan and drain away. Besides forcing fluid through the rack might not be the best thing if you do have contaminants you could cause blockage or O-ring damage.

I sucked mine out, when it got a little stiff. It seemed to have gotten much better, takes a couple of days though before you feel the difference.

Alex, the '97s are better in the US on insurance because the GTP was an 'option' on the GT rather than a seperate model. Er, that's pretty much it.
