I was in AutoZone last week and I got suckerpunched walking through the "engine mods" section...there it was, one of those cone filters with the chrome caps and red element media. With all the other red trim I've put under the hood it just seemed like a natural...I went by Home Depot today and picked up some PVC and painted a section tonight...so weather permitting tomorrow I'll be pulling the stock airbox and installing the new intake...I decided to keep the stock elbow at the TB since the PVC conduit I bought has one enlarged end which is a very close fit...I'll post up some pics when I'm done. thumbsup

T-bat, FYI...
I painted my PVC intake and the filter would not stay on, it kept slipping off. I realized the problem was that I painted the part of the intake that the filter slides on to. I had to scrape paint from around the edge, where the filter seats on the intake.

and yes pics will be required.

pics as ordered...I butchered the stock airbox bottom tray to make a tray to hold the PCM, which I then zip tied down...I'm still considering what to use for a heat shield but I'll decide that later...I want something that will still show the filter element (its a show thing) although I ran my Intrepid like this for years with no problems...and uh, LOVE the sound!

Very nice Tbat.

I'm still unclear how you guys are zip tying the PCM down. Do you use a really HUGE zip tie all the way around the PCM, or does it have holes or tabs that you can put the tie thru? What part of the chasis do you put the tie thru?

Hope to do mine tomorrow, but securing the PCM is the only question I have. I'm a visual learner and I have seen dozens of CAI photos, but nobody shows the PCM zip tied down. frown

Looks good. If you want to go with a box that will show off the filter you can always make one from plexiglass.

I'll get some pics tomorrow (it'll be too dark when I get home tonight) of what I ended up doing. It's out of the norm as far as placement, but it works good. End highjack.

Agree with Herc. Guessing the way you are, you'll probably make some sweet design on the CAI.

Yes, crimpton has an excellent homemade CAI with a plexi cover. Might want to consult him.
