Having found out the trannies are rated for 280hp... im worried about going too far with moding the car. Its a 97. Soon as i have the spare time I'm going to get the u-bend delete, then in spring getting a K&N cold air intake with the 9" filter. What else should I do? Little tight on cash, so having a tranny rebuild isnt an option. I also dont want to kill my gas milage (college student, low funds) I was thinking of getting a 3.5 pulley, or possibly the 3.4 if it isnt going to be too hard on my engine. I might be able to get a pcm next year.. maybe. Might also see about getting a custom exhaust, guessing 2.5" for my needs? (would love to hear more growl if 3" allows)

Your tranny will be fine with the basic mods you want to do.

3.5 pulley a CAI/FWI Ubend delete 180 tstat and PCM won't be a problem with your tranny. A new DP won't hurt it either. I'd prefer the DP to the Ubend delete. But do as your cash dictates.

I can run all the mods that I have with a stock tranny, but this is probably as far as you can go on it unless you upgrade the drive shafts to the bullet proof zzp ones (most likely my next mod) but as far as the pulleys go, dont waste your money on a press on, even if you dont ever plan on changing it. Just get the MPS, you will thank yourself when its installed I promise

Be sure to use the proper tool for the job, otherwise you will end up buying a whole new snout. 3 jaw puller is not the proper tool.

Your on the right track. A little bit of mods will help you out. I agree with Herc. Save your money that you were going to use for a U-bend delete and get a DP. This will increase the air flow in your exhaust and delete the U-bend in one shot. I'd also recommend a hi-flo cat. When you're ready for a PCM, you can look at the classified section on clubgp. You can save some money that way. Granted, you'll have to find someone to help you change the VIN, but NY has local members.

Good luck!

DPs come with either high flow cat or no cat. Your choice.

You can also get just the D/P, have it welded to your stock cat, that's less than $200.
Not a wise choice, it'll cost you more money, but if you're in a pinch and putting the D/P U-bend together separately is financialy easier for you to do.
That's how I got mine. I ended up spending more money, but it was easier on me financialy to do it this way, plus a little here and a little there was easier to get by the wife without her noticing.

I deffinatly want the u-bend out of there by spring, so I might just get that done for $40 and save up to replace it all later.
