i noticed yesterday that while i was driving the exterior temp reading was 62 and dropped to 58, while the outside temp was actually about 72. i also have noticed that my gas milage and fuel range dont seem to be reading correctly either. averge milage is reading around 19 where it usually is closer to 23 and fuel range on a full tank reads well into the 300s and now it is about 280.

a few weeks ago i had some problems with a bad battery cable causing the car to act weird, could this be the cause of the false readings? any other ideas?

A bad connection could be the reason, Only one way to find out, fix the connection and if it all goes back to normal again, then its fixed... a bad connection can do some wierd stuff!

When everything is fixed, you can reset the PCM.

bad connection has been fixed. ended up having to put in a new battery because i broke the positive terminal off the battery. the car sat for about two days with no battery in it.

Let me guess, the battery was a OE battery.

yup, i believe so. battery was still good, i just let the corrosion get to the point where it started causing problems. when i tried to get the cable off it was, for lack of a better word, welded to the post and it just ripped the post right out of the battery.

went to town a few minutes ago and the temp seemed to be normal, or as best as i could tell. but on the way back home it went from 72 to 59. im almost certain that 72 was pretty close to the actual temp, but then it dropped to 59, no way is any spot that i drove thru that cool. also, mpg says 18.1. i know im getting better than that.

don't worry, it has happened to me twice, once with the factory battery and then with another ac delco battery just like the factory one. oh well i guess!

combination of both. usually average about 20 to 23 depending on how heavy the foot gets.

You should of bought a optima! You will never deal with corrosion or any of the wet cell crap that those batteries have. They are great batteries. Period square
