Hi all,
New to the GPNet. Have a 97SE. Ac wansn't working -nothing. Put in 1 can 134 - it started but wasn't to cool. Put another can -much better -like 40-48degrees at vent (40-45 low and 250? i think hi)Problem the compressor is not cycling just constant runninng. I did notice that when the gauges were hooked up the hi side would go close to 280+ then slip back to 220 then build again to 280 or higher then back to 230 or so. Whatch think? Car has 174,000 on it.
Thanks
John

Take my response with a grain of salt as this isn't my expertise, but I would wonder if the compressor is starting to go or if you have a partial blockage in the system.

I recently filled mine up and the compressor made a horrendous noise and the cool air didn't last more than a couple days. Tried filling it again and it didn't do anything. frown

So, I'm about to replace the compressor, dryer, and orifice tube on my car. While I have it all apart I figured I'd do things right and flush the system out and then evacuate it before refilling it.

I should prolly take pics and create a write-up if I can remember to do so... crazy

what does ur low side run at? this is what causes the compressor to engage and disengage. Sounds like to me u have too much freon!
How much is in the system?? If u have too much the system wont get cold enough either!
The compressor I think is working fine ..just alittle conserned about the amount of freon!

Can of R134a? Messing with the AC like that really isn't a good idea. Too much gas in the system can do just as much damage as not having enough. If you just want to Advance or something and picked up a kit, you really don't have any idea how much is in the system. Take it to a shop with the tools to recharge the system, shop around. You'll be amazed at the price differences you'll see.
