Crutcfield has some excellant infinity's on sale from $100 to $50. They sound great in my GP. Make sure you get some bass blockers to help from blowing them again.

The best way to keep to busting aftermarket speakers is to get an amp and put on them. You can bet the best sound out of them without doing much damage.

it blocks all the bass to your speakers so they are clearer, all the base then comes from your subs/bigger speakers

it helps the speakers sound clearer and better

So how much would a bass blocker cost then, its news to me. And about the amish, ya, i know they suck, and the road apples make my GP dirty.

Bass blockers can run a little high if you were to purchase them from a store such as best buy. Crutchfield may offer them anywhere from 10-30 dollars (could be wrong). All it does is cut off the speakers frequency of playing so it doesnt play the lower end frequencies(bass) and you get the higher end frequencies instead which would just be your music. A single sub (10,12,15) can help bring that bass to your system without wearing your door speakers. Bass is just about the killer of all door speakers unless their a good set of speakers.

If you purchase a 4 channel amp with any set of new aftermarket speakers for your grand prix you will notice a huge improvement in sound quality over your stock deck (or even aftermarket deck's) internal amp.

just a new headunit on stock speakers sounds 1000% better than a stock premium system.

$10 a pair with connectors. $8 a pair if you want to solder

Ya, the first thing i bought for my car was a new head and 6x9's, because once the sound level passed a certain point it sounded like the speakers were underwater.

Very, very good information about the bass blockers, which I was not aware of.

What frequency would be the best cutoff for your average run of the mill factory door speakers?

----------------------------------------

File this under the "for what it's worth" category: When I got my car from my sister, the rear 4" speakers were completely trashed. Sounded like two tin cans strung between a piece of string.

I replaced them with a pair of Boston Acoustics S45 4" 2-ways. They were a little bit pricey at $80.00 per pair, but I'd just gotten a bonus so I was feeling flush.

Man on man, did it ever make a difference in the sound! I keep the fader slightly leaned toward the back, and I couldn't ask for better sound coming out of my speakers now. I guess my sister never cranked it up, because the front door speakers sound crisp and clean.

But the bass blockers sound like a good idea in order to keep them that way, huh?

Put the speakers you want in the shopping cart on crutchfield's site. Once they are there, go to teh cart and click add accessories. The proper ones will generally show up. If you already have a sub or good 6x9s go with the higher hz model if they recommend two different models.
