What is the muffler looking thing behind the flange and O2 sensor in the exhaust? Is this a muffler or are the mufflers at the rear? Mine leaks, can I just cut it out and replace it with a pipe or will it be too loud then?

I think your talking about the Resonator or CAT. Others will chime in, its been awhile since I've been down there

the resonator is behind the o2 sensor, but when you say muffler it sounds like your describing the CAT. BEHIND is all relative to what end of the car u r standing. anyways, a resonator is good to keep, it elimintates bad vibrations and makes the exhaust a little quieter. but its not necessary.


basically it goes like this, after your downpipe comes the cat, to a flange, to the u-bend with o2 sensor, to another flange, to the resonator, then some piping to ur mufflers.

Mufflers are at the rear. Resonator is before them and after the cat/o2 sensor

Stock exhaust? You'd probably like it, most do. Throw in headers or an aftermarket muffler like a flowmaster and you'll jar your brain with interior resonance though.

im about to do a res delete but keep my stock exhaust, i dont want aftermarket exhaust, not my taste. but it will make em a little bit louder and possibly better performance.

Deleting the resonator will make your exhaust a little louder but will do nothing for performance,if you decide to change muffs try cherry bomb turbos they are cheap not loud and sound one of the best I've heard on a GP their only fault is they wo'nt last more than a couple of years.Chico(pops)

I just did a res delete....didn't notice much more noise....but I did notice a little more hp. Not crazy lot. But enough to notice. Ill have to roll down the window and listen to the exhaust though.

99 GTP Mods= Wizair, U-Bend delete, Resonator delete, 180 T-stat, Msd coil pack.
Appearance mods= 20% tint all around, HID's, rerouted flashes to fogs and tails, front grill has a Red Gtp badge,Calipers painted red, engine cover painted silver, and with red lettering, rear pontiac red overlays, and side Gtp badges have red overlays, Silver star fogs, A piller w/gauges boost installed, oil, knock have to be installed, and a GPS.

Mods to come= 3" DP, and others........haven't thought about it
