Today my car decided to throw some more electrical problems my way. First, it was the amp cutting out and now this. First off its a 97 GT with dual/digital climate control. Here are the symptoms...
DIC is out, completely black, no letters/symbols. I checked by shining a flashlight at it. The "trac off" lights up. Dual zone climate control LED board does not light up although the buttons do. The HVAC does not turn on at all. The auto headlights do not turn on but the park and head lights come on manually. Turn, high-beam and fog lights work normally.
I checked all the fuses that I could and I pulled the dash off, HVAC and cd player were pulled out and I wiggled the wires to see if I could get lucky. I checked all the wires I could see and none of them looked loose. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

Your ignition switch is probably the culprit.
Backinblack has a page about repairing the corroded ignition switch issue.

X2. Mine has similar problems and as soon as I can find a place that sells the tools needed to remove the ignition switch, I will be fixing it. From what I've read, you need female torx drivers size T10 and T11, but 1/8 and 5/32 sockets will work if they are thin enough. The only one I can find is a 5/32, so if you manage to get it off with something else, let me know. Blackarrow pointed me to a great write-up

Some more symptoms... Heat "drifting" out of the 2 passenger side vents and cold air drifting out of the 3 driver side vents
When I started to car up this morning the auto lights did not turn on but the DIC and HVAC display did, although they were both wrong and the HVAC did not operate when buttons were pressed. I turned the car off after about 10 seconds and restarted it and they were off again.
Thanks grindingnemo for the link. It looks like some people simply replaced the ignition starter switch. I'm going to try to clean the contacts and see where that gets me.

you should be able to get the torx bits at any auto store, or in a set called a security set.

I haven't had a chance to get into this yet but some more weird things have happened. The DIC and digital HVAC have come back on sporadically and now the HVAC reads in Celcius. I've read on here that the way to switch this back to Fahrenheit would be to switch a ground wire in the back. How could this be possible since this was never changed in the first place (it read F before). The auto headlights seem to come on randomly separate from the DIC and HVAC. I hope this is still the ignition switch.

You need to fix what we told you to before we can diagnose any further. The ignition switch wreaks havoc on our electrical system

Those symptoms sound exactly like the one's my GP had and then my wife's GP had. In both cars it was the ignition switch. If you get a new one, save the old one and clean it up in case you need one again in the future. Although, the OEM switch lasted about 8-10 years.

Umm you don't need to remove the ignition switch to fix this, you need to install relays across the accessory and ignition wires to take the place of the switch.
The problem is that over time the ignition terminals corrode and no longer conduct enough current to power everything, since ALL of the power that drives the blower motor, ac, radio, headlights, and most other switched electrical accessories runs through the ignition switch, it can cause a lot of problems when it fails.
If you cannot get ahold of backinblack I will type up a howto on repairing the ignition module but again, YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE IGNITION CYLINDER TO REPAIR IT - its all wiring under the dash.
