Hello,

You guys have been great at helping me out in the past, so I wanted to run a new one by you...I gave a 99 GTP with 177k miles. I have had a problem for years that just started getting worse. About twice a year on average I will notice that my car will come close to stalling or will just stall when I am cruising along at anywhere from any speed. This happens immediately with no warning, and I can immediately restart it (while coasting). It has stalled while at a stop also. I replaced plugs and wires and I use the same fuel. Just last week I noticed some sputtering while under acceleration, but the following day, it was no longer sputtering. What could this be???? Fuel pump, injectors, something electrical???

Hey neighbor, (im from eagan mn) well could be your MAF sensor, but i think it would be consitantly weird, not sure randomly.

go to autozone and buy a MAF cleaning kit. just for the sake of it.
Also it could be the Cat. ? idk how you would test it.

also maybe an o2 sensor.

all of This is for the sputtering problem at least.

theres my 2 cents, i had sputtering issues. that was my plugs tho. GrandprixGTalpine had an big issue and it turned out it was his MAF sensor.

someone else knows a heck lot more than me.

I will try cleaning the MAF first and see what happens. The tough part is, it doesnt happen often, so I will have to wait a while to see if it is fixed. Although if the MAF is pretty dirty, that could be it. Funny thing is, this seems to happen more when it is raining or really damp outside (like it was the other day here). Any more info on this is welcome... Thanks.

do you have an oiled k&n open cone air filter ?

aparently those can gunk up a MAF sensor pretty nicely

I also forgot, a Vaccum leak could kill the car too, look for a cracked black plastic tubing around the engine bay leading to the MAP sensor behind the motor.

thats another biggie

The same sorta thing happened to me a few months ago. The bolts that hold the wires to the battery were coming loose and once I started driving my car would stall. Sometimes it would start to stall, and not quite make it and keep running.

Eventually I went to start my car one day and I had no power. So I checked the bolts and they were pretty loose. Screwed em back in and it started right up.

So maybe try checking/replacing your battery bolts.

The cracked vacuum line could be it. Now that you mention it. I did have an issue starting the car two years ago. Took it to the shop and they replaced a vacuum fitting that was leaking. Plastic fittings could just be getting old and cracking. Thanks.

I would go with the first thing u suspected, a fueling issue. Try replacing your fuel pump resistor, it does definitely fit the symptoms.

Jorgs, as much as u suggest it in every topic LOL, I highly doubt it's a maf or vac leak. MAF aren't usually sporadic like that and a vac leakwould give you issues all the time and wouldn't fix itself.

Another thing that springs to mind is possibly a cps going bad?

like i said hutch, its not a bad idea either way,

i said that it woudl be consitantly if it was the MAF, but lol i do say the MAF alot now that i think of it... hehe well it seems to be a popular problem wink

only if it's over oiled.

Dry media filters are much better. Get a good Amsoil filter instead.
