Never seen my car go over the first bar so I knew something was wrong when topped the third bar at night!

Looks like Dexcool kept its promise - lasted for 100k miles and not much more.

I was surprised at how clean the piping and components were considering some of the horror stories here.

I considered putting dexcool back into it butthe premixed dexcool was $19/gal and the premixed green stuff was $7/gal and I would rather change it more often since the car is getting older.

ouch, mine lasted for right around 100k too. I ended up just flushing it, doing the LIM/UIM gaskets, and a thermostat, and i havent had a problem since.

Yep, mine was at that same bar and I had to replace the heads but luckly I have a machanic that knows what he is doing and only charge me 900 for everything. But if this is the problem you have, you caught it in time, for me I had white smoke cover the whole intersection and coolant went everywhere inside the engine bay. Just get that check out soon as possible.

You had to replace both heads? Or just the gaskets you mean?

Well one head went out on me but my mechanic said to replace both heads and he also did the gaskets as well, nothing was wrong with the gaskets but he said that I mine as well replace them while he got the engine apart so I did.

x2 what ordenez said.

Looks like I might have more trouble than I thought - the car seems to be eating coolant.

Its not leaking onto the ground (its garaged) but the reservoir keeps emptying, Ive had to put half a gallon into it in a week.

is this related to heads? What exactly are the heads and how bad is it?

Some more info:

The coolant is clear, there's no froth in the oil (that I see now), no leaks on the ground, no misfires, always starts exactly the same.

I just looked and I see a puddle of oil sitting on the rear of the engine, taking pics now.

When my LIM gasket went, I had puddles like that too...

Spray some cleaner back there, then soak it all up, Check if it comes back.
