K&N Cold Air intake - 08/18/09 10:14 PM

Anyone here using a K&N Cold Air Intake 57?
Part no. K333573045. Its would be for a 2002
Grand Prix GT reg. 3800. It cost around 300
bucks and is supposed to gain 13hp.

Is this any good or just hype?
Would you buy one?

Just get a 9" K&N cone and run an open cone.
Don't waste your money on over priced plexi boxes that restrict air flow.

I agree they're not worth #300 but I think they look like they belong in the car and you do see gains with this kit the same as you would from any smooth tube with a large K&N filter ,the heat shield in this kit is nothing special just a tin heat shield ,the thing I do like is the huge oval filter and a nice polycarbonate air tube which is somewhat heat resistant ,K&N sends a dyno sheat with every kit they sell ,for a GT you could just go with a piece of pvc and a k&N filter and save yourself $250 because your really not going to see much of a difference whichever you decide to buy.Chico(pops)

I bought the K&N, and I love it. It really gives better throttle response, and def. gives you noticeable power gains. Plus it gave me about 2mpg.

And like Chico said, it just LOOKS better than some PVC pipe from Home Depot. Is it more expensive? Yes. Would I spend $300 to buy it again? Yep.

just make your own man, paint the pvc black if it matters that much, you'll still save yourself like 200-250 bucks with the same outcome.

I have it, but only paid like 70 bucks for it used. Would never pay 300 for it, but I do love it.

At a hardware store I saw they actually had black PVC pipe that was the exact same as the white, although I didn't check sizes but im sure it would have fit our intake well.

I love my K&N kit setup and im so glad I got it, totally worth it.

SLP has theirs for $189 and free shipping in August. They say it is good for 10 HP. Every SLP part I ever put on a F-body was top notch.

marcus105's setup is probably the way to go.

$300 is waay too much for what you get. A cone ($45) + Plastic mold ($10).

I picked up a K&N CAI used from another member for $150. Its been good so far. Plus in CA it helps since its CARB legal.

No. It's got a bottom and two sides.

*EDIT* From what I remember, actually, the PCM bolts onto the bottom. Which is another reason it's better than the Home Depot one, it's got a built in spot for it. wink
