Filter kit??? are you talking about a drop in replacement or a cone or what ? K&N also makes a CAI kit you have to be a little more specific.

No.

You will only get 3 to 4 actual hp with it which you won't feel at all. When I bought one, I didn't. Just needed cleaning every 40-50k.

Instead, I recommend a Cold Air Induction kit for $200 to get 10 hp. You will notice a difference in throttle response but the car will sound like Darth Vader due to the vacuum is louder. Takes some getting used to but its worth it and you get much better bang for the buck!!

They have them at www.pfyc.com.

The pic shows a CAI kit but it looks like you are just getting the Cone Filter, which is incomplete.

Still recommend getting a CAI kit somewhere else. This way you get everything. Plus kits have enclosures for the cone filter so it doesn't sucking in hot air, which defeats the purpose.

I wouldnt get that one on ebay you showed, it didnt even have the hole for the air sensor, kinda cheap.

Re: K&N air filter kit - 01/14/05 06:14 PM

For the price its not bad,it includes a aluminum intake tube and a K&N filter ,but it's certainly not a CAI but you could build a box to isolate it,like i said for $40 not bad compaired to most cai on the market for over $200,and Blackhawk look close it has the sensor plugged in.

On my open cone intake I noticed a 5 mpg increase on the highway.

Re: K&N air filter kit - 01/16/05 06:25 AM

since you do'nt have any sig.(it's very hard to give advice witthout car year model& mods) i will say that because the K&N flows well and you will be getting a fairly straight shot at the throttle body with the kit your looking at you will have noticeable throttle gains, though not ideal a open cone is an improvement over stock because of the sheer volume of air moved, ideally the air should be at ambiant temp.especially with N/A applications, but as mentioned before its not that difficult to build a box for your system.

I agree! Save your $200 and build your own box.
Spend the money you saved on a U-bend delete, plugs and wires, mufflers, or something else.

Just look on E-bay they have hundreds of them ,i imagine any thing that would work on the 3.1 would work on the 2.8.

Re: K&N air filter kit - 02/02/05 07:18 AM

The open cone is much louder then the stock airbox. GM keeps the airboxes quiet so grandma don't complain that her car is too noisey.

Re: K&N air filter kit - 02/02/05 01:08 PM

Scion have CAI available as a TRD option. All other manufactures use their standard boxes.

Companies have to weigh different factors.
Neighborhood Noise Pollution + Customer Complaints + not 100% proven dirt filtration + gain 5-7 HP + loose 1 mpg.

vs.

Quieter + customer needs to keep purchasing filters + loss potential HP + conservative mpg.
