K&N Cold air intake or Thrasher? - 06/06/07 12:09 AM

Hey everybody, I am new here. Just bought my 2000 black on black GTP with 48000 miles on it. Hardly used, it was leased as a company car to a place in ohio. I wanted to get the Speedbuilt Fenderwell Cold Air intake kit over at PFYC.COM but its no longer listed there. Anyone know what happened to it or where I can get one?

In case I cant get my hands on one what are your opinions on K&N or Thrasher as one to go with instead.

Thanks all!

Homemade is the way to go. You'll get a better cai system at a fraction of the cost.

Hey I used to have a black on black GTP. Is yours a sedan or coupe? The poor thing got totalled when some one ran a red light and killed my baby.

Anywho I have the speedbuilt FWI and I am very please with it. On my old car, I built a Intake, like most of the people here, and I did a great job, but I didn't like the way it looked. Now I'm very proud to open my hood to show someone.

Oh and welcome to the site!

Hey all! Thanks for the responses. Kev mine is a sedan. I pray to God no one hits my bad boy, it took me years to find one in this condition with only 48000 miles. I also got it for a great price. I think I will by the fenderwell intake since I am not gifted enough mechanically to build one. Anyone have any suggestions on an exhaust that has a nice powerful growl but not to loud?

I would say get that JMB FWI, that looks really good, much better then my Speedbuilt. But anywho if you want your exhaust to growl you have to take that resonator off. That should be the first thing you do. On my old car, (BTW, we had the exact same car, mine was a sedan too) I left it on and put some Flowmasters on it, and it sounded just like a tone. No growl. On my current GP, I used the same mufflers, and ripped that resonator off and put a straight pipe in, and didn't put resonated tips on it, and growl it does.

So if you don't want it too loud, just try take it to a local exhaust shop, and have them put a straight pipe in place of the resonator, leaving the stock mufflers on and whatnot, and then go from there. That will make it sound much better, while making it noticably louder, but not crazy like my car. If you want it louder after you do that, then throw some Flowmasters on it and you should be good to go.

Oh and does your car look kinda like this?

Or this?

Sometimes I really do miss my black beast.

Gah drummer you confuse everyone....

The first thing you should do is take the resonator out. That will give you the sound that I think you are looking for. Take it to a muffler place and have them weld a straight pipe in place of it. Should only cost ya like 40 bucks. If you are still not pleased with it, you can put some flowmasters on or something, but at least your off in the right direction.
Hope this helps.
