L36 SS M90 review

Well all-in-all great product. I started it on a Thursday night, it took about an hour to get everything apart. Putting it back together it took about 2 hours. I did the valve cover gaskets to and I was regreating not doing rockers too b/c it could have had them on in about an hour. My only dislike about it is the bulliet fuel rails didn't line up right so I had to bend the brackets, other then that the kit is great. Total price about 1400 including Oil, coolant and new MAP sensor. Install time about 4 hours in total. The car pulls like a SOB. If I go WOT from anything less then 40MHP the tires break losse, and you have to get off of it.
Does anyone want to take a dyno guess I'm getting it done tomrrow. MOds are in sig.

Glad to hear that it went so well for you. You'll dyno higher than me. I'm guessing 230 whp.

Ordonez how much time did you spend on yours? It took me about 28 working hrs spread over 3 days for the complete job from start to finish.

With a 4" pulley you should dyno 250whp.

With a 3.8 pulley I "should" dyno more than that... arg.

The SS kit is getting better dyno results than the top swap for a number of reasons,ported LIM ported Blower, injector placement ect.and should dyno about 50whp higher than a L-67.Chico.

Besides the 253whp that the ZZP tested car with a 4" pulley put down what I found more interesting that this car put down slightly over 300wtq,this was on a high mileage l-36.Chico.

Well the numbers are in, and the winner is Chico, 262WHP w/ 307wtq. , I never expected it to be that high, when the guy got done he asked what the hell I did to it, i just laughed. I didn't want to pay the guy $400 to dyno tune it, so I'm going to fine tune it over the next week or two and get it dynoed again. From the scans as he was doing it, I can add alittle timing.
Here is a summary for you guys:

Price- $1400 total.
Labor time - 4hrs
Difficulty- medium
Results- 262whp w/ 307wtq

Need a good set of tools, torque wrenchs (ftlbs), and the patence to read the directions ZZP give you for the vac lins b/c they get confusing.

I will post the before and after pics alittle later, plus a small vid of the S/C whine.

The SS IC shows gains of around 30whp and the regular IC is about 50.

As you can see by the numbers this kit with a 4" pulley gtp inj. and basic exhaust upgrades is pushing almost 100whp over a stock L-36 ,so with a cam and ssic you could see 300whp and 350wtq ,does'nt that make you GTP owners want to cry :p .Chico.

I haven't done the kit myself, but 4hrs seems like you're pretty good with the wrenches. I'd estimate higher for people who haven't done similar work.

Holy pressurized intake Batman!...those are some potent numbers no doubt. $1400 is way less than a turbo kit and you eliminate the plastic upper intake...two big thumbs up for the "D" man in NYC

Any of you guys worried about your tranny? I was looking into a swap but I just don't like the idea of getting an engine that may not have been taken care of as well I mine has.

I just took the heads to a machine shop and had a valve job done, just to be safe, and i had them all cleaned up and checked for warpage. Everything else was ported and cleaned up real nice. The tranny is another story, they make an HD kit for the non-HD trannys, i just havent had the funds to do it.

There is basically nothing to the kit, it's just an HD differential and cover, plus a passenger axle. Hit Ed up for a quote.

My main concern was getting an engine someone had beat on, but apparently Granny drove mine. I should have taken pics of all the carbon in the cylinders. It couldn't have gone WOT in years.

Thanks guys, for the support guys and girls. It all wouldn't have bee possible without it. Well I've been to a couple of meets in the last few days and not one of my friends can come close to me, 4 GTPs gone, and some kid thought with his V6 Mustang, and exhust work done, he could take me. I had him by a car at the 60' mark. (on an abandon road near my house we spray painted lins on the curb so we know were the 60' is and 1/4.)

As for the tranny side of this, I'm going to order the HD upgrade from ED, when my diff goes. I'm hoping that the only thing that goes. On the last two casrs I worked on only the diffs went on the tranny nothing else. But all in good time lets see what happens.

Thats good to hear. It is funny how you either know a grand prix or you don't know squat (like the mustang dude). Many folks see a fat granny mobile. Even with my supercharged badges they don't even know it is supercharger. Hope you get to the real track soon to post up some times!

Remember the same amount of money and time and the L67 will do the same.

Once my car is paid for and I get another DD my motor is coming out and im going to build it up. I'm gonna stroke it put an M112 on cam it inter cooled, headers etc etc.

like you said same time and well with that setup more money and it will be a beast

DO NOT supercharge unless you plan to swap cams!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Herc, I don't think the M112 cobra blower will bolt up... or are you talking about a GenV M90?

Well here's the thing if you asked a year ago on this board if you could SC a GT most GTP owners would respond by trade it in on a GTP,so ZZP finally gets it together with this kit and for $1500 you can change a GT that will by any means spank a GTP I mean it will be almost a full second faster in the quarter than a stock GTP and dyno 50-60whp higher ,now do'nt get me wrong I would still suggest buying a GTP first off but at least now the GT owners have a reasonable option available ,and I find it interesting that it would take almost that same $1500 for a GTP to run with a M-90'ed GT talk about a turnaround.Chico.
