Has anyone installed air breathers where the oil cap used to be? what would be the point of such a mod?

I installed the one from my 20th Anniv TTA on our '98 Grand Prix temporarily....I've been looking for one for the GT that is anodized red aluminum (the one for my TTA is plain aluminum billet). When used on my TTA, it helps minimize oil pressure blow by in other parts of the engine, so I figured it wouldn't hurt on the GT (my TTA is down at the moment because I have to replace the engine mounts).

so that is truly the only reason for a breather, to minimize the blow by pressure . How does it affect the aging of the oil? Do you know how it affects the atmosphere within the block?

Doesn't affect the oil as far as I know..and don't know about the atmosphere....in the case of my TTA (and the GN), it helps keep the crankcase pressure down so you don't blow seals.....so I figured the same principle probably applies to other engines as well. This is one of the basic mods to add to a Grand National or 20th Anniv TTA engine, but I don't know if the 3800 engines benefit in the same manner.

Hope this helps.
