semi- auto conversion??? - 07/06/09 07:06 PM

ok i konw that some gps made from 04 and up have a shift option in the consel so it becomes a semi auto. do u guys think a 97-03 gp could be converted to do the same. i know its all electronic but the shifter that our cars have arn't secure enough. like when u shift from 2 to 3 there is no destinktive "click", u got to look to make sure the selector moved.

It's been done, but no point IMO. It's not going to be like the 04+ tap shift.

anything is possible with enough time and money.

Personally while it would be "different" I would put my efforts elsewhere.

I haven't seen any conversions but I'd imagine you'd need more then just a switch and reprogram.

If you want to do it for originality cool go for it. If your doing it for the "fun" factor I'd pass. Are you going to Auto-x a 3800 pound FWD car? For the fun factor the work outweighs any gains in fun.

the conversion I saw just replaced the PCM shift signals all together and drove the proper gear solenoids based on the selected gear for the shifter box he used.

i tried finding photos of a new gp that had the manual mode in the shifter console, but no avail. all i can find are the tap shifts, i swear i saw a man mode in the gear selector at a dealer...
the conversion that u mentioned, do u kno if it was a semi auto or a electronic manual?

not sure what the difference would be... it was basically a clutch-less manual.
