Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/24/10 12:46 AM

So in lieu of all my cars issues I've decided to jump on a deal for a set of rims. They are 18" American Racing Casino's (Same as Ben's old GT) One tire has low tread other 3 are almost new. He's practically giving them away at $250 bucks. They are dirty as hell and need a ton of elbow grease to make them look really shiny but other than that , i'm going to be lookin sweet for the summer thats for sure! I'll toss up pics when I go to see them , hopefully this week. Early birthday money for the WIN !

You have officially joined the casino club. Not what Id choose but that's a sweet deal. I'd clean them up real good and sell them elsewhere.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/24/10 10:00 AM

Are they chrome? If so that's a very good price.

I still have my Casino's around, putting them on the GTP in spring. You got any pics of the wheels your getting?

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/24/10 12:03 PM

They are low quality pics i'll post them up later. I'm actually contimplating making them look real nice and selling them , and maybe grabbing a set of better rims. I know these rims are heavy as hell but i'm running the tri spokes and they're the heaviest GP rim around. I personally like the AR Casino's.

Any wheel is better than the tri spokes. They will look good on the car.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/24/10 03:04 PM

And yes they are chrome. They are mounted and balanced on Michelin Pilots. Anyone have these tires ? How bad are they in the rain, he says they're not the best.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/24/10 03:24 PM

Good deal on the rims,U could alwa-s paint the spokes black and leave the rim chrome,as far as the Michelin pilots the- are nice tires and real good tread wear .Chico(pops)

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/24/10 08:49 PM

You need to be more specific than Michelin Pilots. Tirerack sells 18 models of Michelin Pilots. As far as wet traction, I would have to say he was either asking too much of his tires in the rain or his inflation was too high or too low. Judging that 3 have good tread and 1 does not tells me he had a very heavy right foot. I sold and installed Michelin tires for 5 years a couple of years ago. Michelin & Bridgestone owners normally came in and asked for the same tire because they were very satisfied. Other brand owners did alot of comparison shopping. This is just my observation, not a proven fact.

Thanks chevman. When I see the tires and rims I'll let you know which pilots they are and you can go from there.
Might be picking these up tonight or tomorrow. Weather pending I'll slapthem on for a day or so and admire them smile

Yours are just a bit different then mine, Mine actually have a sphere in the middle yours is flat (or somewhat flat) and has AR logo weird. I'd get some chrome lugs and valve stem as well to finish em.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/25/10 07:50 PM

Sadly the two worse tires hold air and the two new ones don't . I filled em up all 4 and than washed them at home and where the rim and tire meets there were air bubbles being forced out and it's loud enough to hear. Is there an at home fix or is goin to a tire shop my only option

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/25/10 08:24 PM

Tire shop. Hope the rims aren't bent.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/25/10 08:33 PM

If you have a compressor, you could let all air out.Use a board or something that sits on tire right where it is leaking. Stand on it so you make some gap where between the rim & tire. Mix a little water & shampoo (slippery yet will not harm rim or tire) together and spray it in the gap. Air tires back up to max PSI on side wall to help seat the bead. While it is airing up, use a rubber mallet and beat on tire where it is leaking to help it seat.

If it was me, I would take them back to installer. Either they took a chuck of bead out when they installed them, or there is crap left on the rims from the last tires, which you probably would have noticed. I would bet it is the first. I would mark the tire where it is leaking with a grease pencil or chalk and tell the shop manager that you would like to see the tire when they break the bead (squeeze tire till it comes off rim edge) I've seen plenty of new guys ruin the bead of a high performance stiff low profile tire while installing.

Check date on old tires. I looked up Michelin Pilots and found none made today that matched your tread design.

Chevman your awesome. I'm bringing them to a shop tomorrow to get them taken off and fixed. I think it's cause two of them had stuff siting on them in his shed . They were all flat and had to be pumped up and just my luck the two good ones failed. I'll let you all know the results tomorrow and hopefully I'll be running all 4 tires not2 !!!

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/25/10 09:43 PM

Probably just need the inside of the rim cleaned up and put some sealing goo in there. Either that or it's bent, hence why you maybe got 'em so cheap.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 02/25/10 10:22 PM

The rims themselves, minus SOME chrome peeling on the inside and just some wear (they're going on a few years old + being stored in a bad shed) they look fine. Curb rash a bit but nothing TOO major. I better not be told that its bent , or this guys gonna hear from me.

Best of luck, hope they arn't bent. I had a bit of leaking on my 18's awhile back, you could hear the air on mine as well. They ended up fixing it by putting something in their to seal it. This is probably common on Casinos so I wouldn't sweat it. Had something to do with just a bit of corrosion or something.

It's weird how yours differ from mine.

That's what my wife says 4 times a year. LOL

Working in a shop for 5 years that did mostly tire installs and suspension work was great education.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/05/10 11:28 AM

Ok so my buddy who's doing my swap fixed my tires too, thank god for this guy ! Gotta say, looks pretty sweet. As for lowering, i'm contemplating it but i'm digging the minimal wheel gap. Also tossed on my rear inlay. If anyone remembers i asked why my GP didn't have the indentation of PONTIAC on the back, well the inlay is eye-balled on, i think i messed up the "A" but other than that it looks good. Also i realized i have a disgusting gap on the driver side where the hood meets the bumper. From my accident last year. Car was just washed also. Input !!

I absolutely LOVE the way the rear wheels stick out. Gives is a lovely wide stance.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/05/10 11:55 AM

what minimal wheel gap? Those gaps are huge dude. You can stick your whole closed fist between the fender and tire there.

Also looks like you have some bad camber on your last photo.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/05/10 12:11 PM

My car sits odd in my driveway, pics don't do justice IMHO. ANd i'm not familiar on what you mean by bad camber Randall.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/05/10 12:12 PM

Looks good, but what's with the huge gap in the headlight/hood?
Posted by: r.s.hutchinson

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/05/10 01:36 PM

Gap is still big IMO and bigger rims make it more noticeable.

Camber is how much the wheel is angled in or out relative to the strut. It looks like the top of the wheel is angled in much more than the bottom so more weight is on the inside wall of the tire. It will cause uneven wear.

Could just be my eyes though.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/05/10 04:04 PM

Its just your eyes man , angle of the shot. Also my front grills need to be fitted a bit better. I'll be fixing these small imperfections come warmer weather

I see the camber too. Looks like your trying to drift that sh*t lol.

Gap is big dude!

I don't know man... that wheel gap doesn't look minimal to me.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/07/10 02:14 PM

Now that you have time before spring, get some mothers polish and a 4" and 6" buffing wheel. Take a bolt with 2 washers and a nut through the wheel center & tighten them down making sure to get it centered perfectly. Mount this in your electric drill and now buff away. The high speed works great and better than a powerball which I have also. Once they shine like chrome, protect them with Rejex. It is only available online. I use it on my polished aluminum wheels and all the chrome & polished aluminum on my motorcycle. The shine will last 6 months and dirt washes off so easy. I never use wheel cleaner. Once I'm done washing my car, I use a soft brush with the soapy water from the bucket.

Re: Rims Mounted + Photos (56K) - 03/07/10 03:24 PM

Thanks Chev ! I'll definitely take that into consideration. When it gets warm out and not just sunny i'll be doing all 4 wheels for the afternoon. I find tire cleaner works good for what its worth though.
