New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/18/09 01:27 PM

So I shopped around for something aluminum and talked to a guy about making it, then when I returned home I said I'll just make something out of pvc.
$10 in supplies and hours worth of fun!
I had to chop the birdhouse up some, but I like how things look now.
Not professional looking by any means, but it beats ricer looks.

Not too shabby, Steve.

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/18/09 02:11 PM

Ya local performance shop wanted $65 for some aluminum canister small than what I made out of pvc and the openings were too small.
I was not going waste money on something so simple.

What do you all think, should I swap the hose out for black hose so it blends into the engine bay better?
If not I want to dye the coolant red! lol

I think a braided hose dress up kit would look killer in there.

Keep the clear run red dye!!!!!!!

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/19/09 10:17 PM

Where can I get that Herc?
I'm assuming don't use food coloring, lol.

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/19/09 11:24 PM

XD you know, it would be cool if you put UV leak detection dye in it and put it under a black light.

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/20/09 12:06 AM

My mom suggested dye called Rit I think.
Drakhan, where do you get this stuff at?

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 03:04 PM

Do you think Rit dye would work, red?

Went to Lowe's and got some new pvc items. Wanted to go 4" but that would require more supplies. Had the metal nipples around, which I was going to use on the system before, but didn't work out.

I like the new design even though the T is a little high for flowing purposes but deff better then the original. I can see why adjusting the T lower is impossible but I think you get what I mean about having the T lower. Defiantly something I would rock if I had gone the S/C route.

Props!

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 04:13 PM

Yup was impossible. Almost thought about cutting hole straight down in that metal where pcm is, but thought I better not. I bought a 45* elbow, was planning to use that, but I couldn't make things work. I don't like the T that high either, I put it down as far as it could go and made the 3" pipe as small as possible when connecting the fittings.
I had to keep checking for hood clearance.

Here's the new Scarlet liquid (Red):

How much fluid does that reservoir hold?

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 05:38 PM

About half a gallon Corey.

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 05:43 PM

Damn. I didn't think that it could hold that much, doesn't look like it from the pics. Very nice.

What is the ID of the pipe, and how tall is it?

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 05:49 PM

that is such a great idea! major props!!!! plus if your at the track you could put ice in it( make your I/c work like kkkrraaaazzzzzyyyyyyy!!!!!

looks like blood flowing threw the lines, ahh the lifeline of your IC setup

He sacrificed something and killed it for its blood and put it in there lol.

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 07:57 PM

You could go 4" if you wanted to Corey.
There is thin walled and thick walled pipe. I got the thick walled 3", so its more like 2-3/4" ID.

I got another freakin leak.
Where top fittings connects to T, some how its leaking. I primed, glued with the blue pvc glue like made, and twisted. I don't get it.

Being red, it really helps to see if there is a leak!!

You can use 4" pipe if you want go even bigger.
There is thick and thin walled pipe.
I used the thick 3" pvc, with ID about 2.5-2.75".
The cap gives more room and so does the T since it reduces.
Corey it rests on that metal surface where pcm lyes, straight up to where you see it. Total height from bottom to top of threads is 12".

The red dye also helps spot leaks easier under the car.

Well the top fitting to the T is leaking some how.
I primed, glued like mad with blue pvc glue, and twisted, still got a leak.
That coolant is some nasty stuff, no wonder why it ate gaskets, eats just about anything.

It'd be really expensive but I'm sure there are similar ways.

BTW that's the same coolant I've got in my computer and yes, it does have black lights. wink

did you wait for the glue to fully cure before you added coolant?

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 08:53 PM

I have no SC experience, so humor me. What kind of temps is this IC exposed to. I know that the average temp a water heater puts out is about 120-140. I doubt the PVC glue is designed for really hot temps. Also, are you using the primer and the glue? It looks like you did from the pics, but the primer is important.

Not really since I am use to sprinkler systems.
But coolant isn't water, and I am sure it tears that glue up.

The inside of the hose is now dyed red! lol

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 08:55 PM

wait about a day, you should try running a streight water food dye mix for a while to see if you develop leaks, if you dont then you know its the coolent eating the glue

Re: New custom IC reservoir *Redesgined* - 04/21/09 08:59 PM

Good point, but PVC deals with the crap we flush and the chemicals from the dishwasher and clothes washer. I realize that the coolant is a bit more caustic wink . But definitely let it cure fully next time.
