Sunroof Questions - 04/26/07 03:08 PM

Since i baught my car, the sunroof has been messed up, about 2 days ago i was driving about 90 and the sunroof actually flew off..The frame was all bent and the glass top obviously broke.. My question to you guys is the place im getting my sunroof replaced is asking about 2750$ to replace the whole thing(parts, labor ect..)Is this a good deal or am i totally getting ripped off?

And that seems like a lot of $. Maybe ed morad can hook you up with all the parts?

Re: Sunroof Questions - 04/26/07 03:13 PM

Ya. it was already bent i guess, the front was kinda tilted up so wind would always get underneith it, i guess the wind got too strong for it this time haha... The guy replacing it said that its so expensive because 1. The 97 grand prix gt sunroof's are "rare" because after 97 they changed roof styles , which changed the sunroofs and 2. Because hes replacing the brackets motor and everything..

im not sure, but i had never heard anything about 97's being different. And im sure ed could hook you up with all the brackets

Way too much man! I think you can take any car without a sunroof and add one and the price should be below $1500. So you already have a hole and what not, you shouldn't be paying near $1500 let alone $2750. You can buy a nice used car for that price, or a crap load of mods.

Re: Sunroof Questions - 04/26/07 06:10 PM

my sunroof is messed up...when i bought the car it wouldn't close all the way...so i had a mech. friend of mine look at it(he's a mech. for gm) and he said he couldn't fix the problem he'd hafta order me a whole new sunroof for 1500 bucks...i thought it was ridiculous then! so he just closed it up and disconnected the power to it...so i just have a glass part of my roof...hm... no

Geez all this bad sunroof talk is scaring me. Maybe I'll just close it when I get on the highway? I don't wanna pay 2500 bucks!

Re: Sunroof Questions - 04/26/07 10:51 PM

haha no mine wasnt open, the front of the sunroof was tilted up for some reason( bent brackets maybe) so when i got going like 70 the wind would go under neith it, so if yours is like mine get a wind shield.. If i did it woulda saved me 2750$$$$$

kwood... I would call your insurance company to see how much your window decutable is. This could be covered by that.

I dont think liability covers that stuff does it?

Re: Sunroof Questions - 04/27/07 03:00 PM

I would think it would be covered just like anything else. I wouldn't mention that the sunroof was damaged prior to this happening though.

Re: Sunroof Questions - 04/27/07 11:18 PM

Yes, he's legit. I've bought over $2k worth of merchandise from him (engine, tranny, bumpers, exhaust, to name a few). He delivers and he'll make any problems right.

Re: Sunroof Questions - 05/02/07 05:55 PM

150 is great even ifit is used...even if that doesnt include shipping its still good...geez for $2750 I'd have a retracting ragtop sunroof installed.

Re: Sunroof Questions - 05/03/07 03:41 AM

Hey, I don't mean to jack the topic, but my sunroof keep skipping when I retract it sometimes, like there's a ****load of friction. It looks like the area it slides on is half covered with grease on both sides, not totally covered. Is that normal? And if so, what could be making so much friction?

Skipping isn't a good way to describe it, but I can't think of a better way. I hope you get what I mean.
