my winter beater cleaning project - 10/04/08 05:05 PM

I don't know what hell nasty dirty is that. It was damn hard to remove them. At least, it was very good right now. I only plan clean right side only because I knew it will take long time to clean everything. I'm too tired and plus I want to watch truck race at Talladega wink Only one thing that I didn't clean headlight. This one is suck so I plan get new headlight. What do you think of cleaning project?

dirty

remove some parts

in middle of cleaning

done! (I know I don't have brace but it was clean so I don't feel like to put it back lol) wow, it is very shiny by sun lol.. That's how I want to look like. Oh I did wash and dry because I never wash winter beater for 5 months. Yes, I'm bad owner but at least they are shiny again. wink

Wow, I just noticed where your power steering pump is located. Must be nice to have it where you can actually get to it.

Indeed. Considering I need lines, and to rebuild my rack with new seals.... frown

What did you use to clean that palsut?

A faster way would've been to spray everything with de-greaser and bust out the garden hose. thats how I started with mine, so I keep it clean enough that all I have to do is dust it off once a while.

I try use de-greaser but it is NOT work. This dirt might be like over 3 years. I use my steam cleaner to clean it out as much as I can then I wipe it out. It helps. I will have more pictures whore soon. Since I already mentioned that I did wash and dry but I didn't took picture so I decide I'm going take some pictures.

Yeah, you are right but I just want to make winter beater look nice. I don't want be one of single fat woman who abuse grand prix laugh

I already have some plan for my winter beater.

I will have front bumper, trunk lid (see yellow line), spoiler and right fender paint later. It will be at FLIP's house when I drop my summer car at MA next year. I will use some parts on rental truck with car tow trailer.

My plan list for winter beater

1. paint some parts (already mentioned above)
2. roof rail (yes, I have other one laugh )
3. headlight with clear corner
4. maybe tint window (still undecide)
5. tint taillights
6. my shiny tri-spoke wheel when I will install 18" wheel on my summer car
7. paint grille (maybe get lower grille too)
8. add plate cover (already have one)
9. make you all jealous that I have two cool cars lol

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/04/08 09:18 PM

I know I don't own 3800 engine but where power steering is? I looked that picture of supercharger engine. I don't see anything. It might buried under engine or somewhere? Sorry about 3100 engine have one. Blame GM wink

My dad's Pontiac G6 don't have tranmission dipstick. We are looking all over and read the book. It doesn't have one. How can we tell if it is low?
Posted by: ordonez1307

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/04/08 09:32 PM

it is on the bottom, next to the firewall.

ive heard a lot of newer cars dont have a tranny dipstick
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/04/08 09:36 PM

damn no wonder... I haven't seen it but I bet it is hard to fill it up if engine block that way.

Oh really? I wonder why they stop use tranmisson dipstick? I think it is really help to know if it is low or not. I checked mine sometimes to make sure. Also brake, steering wheel, oil, coolant and you name it all to check everything if it is not low.

It's sealed. If it doesn't leakout it stays full. They have a fill port similar to that of a rearend on the tranny for if you have to open it up. Not very owner friendly.

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/06/08 12:43 AM

lol thanks. I love both cars. I just want make it neat and cool looking wink

Right side is cause by my hand work and steam cleaner. I was thinking maybe go car wash and use high pressure wash on right side only where no battery, fuse, and engine coolant (small hole if water go into) but I'm afraid it will hurt some engine parts?

I didn't get chance clean left side becuase I went to my dad's apt today to wash/dry/wax his baby car.

His good looking car

I brought 2006 Pontiac G6 V6 for my girlfriend as gift when her car engine almost blow up. We have been together for 6 years. Now, we broke up. I'm one who dump her so I took this car away from her. Thank god, I'm not marry her. If we did then she will keep this car for sure like divorce stuff. Anyway, I have my summer car and G6. I was almost thinking use my grand prix as winter beater and use G6 as like GXP or something cool looking. I'm glad I give it to my dad so my gp look much better than GXP. I think I made right choice wink

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/06/08 09:18 AM

i would be very carefull using a high pressure wash on the right side...you might damage some serious electrical
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/06/08 09:45 AM

Very true. I looked this picture of left side. I see some power around. I will just use my hand work again next week if weather is good later. Cleaning are fun wink

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/12/08 08:02 PM

The weather is getting good again. I clean my summer car in morning yesterday and some meeting/photoshoot so I don't have time for winter beater.

There is link for cleaning my summer car yesterday and also photoshoot.

http://www.grandprix.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=011094

So, I decide use high pressure water on left side. I cover all electronic thing. It was pretty good. This car is running normal after that. I keep pray.. please start... (engine starting) I keep say YES! lol

I took left headlight, intake air box, and brace out for high pressure wash. It was little much improving. It could be easy job for me tomorrow (no work on Monday yay!) than I done right side by my hand work.

last weekend

today

I decide hold that engine cleaning later. I'm going wash and polish the wheels. I only clean face of rims. I have like 1K miles left for tire rotation so I will clean inside other time for easy cleaning job.

rear dirty vs. front clean

dirty

clean

wait, when did you get that wing on your winter "beater"?
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/12/08 08:14 PM

lol I knew that! I was thinking I bet some members will say put this wheel on my summer car. Well, next week it will be cold from my local new weatherman. I will not driving summer car for while. I'm going to strip some dashboard and engine for paint. So, I'm driving winter beater for now. It has been sitting 2 weeks.

*edit*

I got it like in June. Almost all of them knew I have daytona spoiler. Where you been? lol

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/12/08 09:15 PM

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/12/08 09:42 PM

great work, Palsut! Come do mine for me now.

btw: you might need a 4-wheel alignment from that last pic. lol
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/13/08 08:29 PM

lol I'm sure it is tough ride and need big 4 wheels alignment.

Richard Candelario: You are from Texas so I'm not going drive all way for clean your car wink

So she look like this in morning.

in middle of cleaning

got tired and relax for while... saw nice truck behind my car

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/14/08 07:38 PM

What is the obsession with torque stars on this board? They are ugly rims that belong in the 90s where they were left =/

18" Chrome is FTW. 16" torquefail is FTL.

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/14/08 08:04 PM

x2 on that notladstyle haha
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/14/08 08:18 PM

lol this wheel are from 90's? That's new to me. lol I'm surprise you say that. Wait and see when they read this and raise you some hell soon. This thread probably will change into torque vs. tri-spoke war wink

Believe me... I say something bad 3800 engine before and everyone went crazy on me. I stop and they stop and move on :p
Posted by: r.s.hutchinson

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/14/08 08:42 PM

Did someone mention 3800? LOL

Notlad, when did 2003 become the 90's?

Did underglow even become popular?

Ppl do things because they like them. Obviously we all like gps or we wouldn't be here so we all have similar tastes. Torque stars are a popular choice

You have a way of just pissing people off the way you post. I dont know if you do it on accident, but its a very unique way of stating your opinion.

Of course a chrome 18 would be nicer, but
torque star > tri-spoke
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/14/08 10:55 PM

me?

torque star = tri-spoke... Why? Because I have both good looking wheels lol
Posted by: '01 GT

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/15/08 12:36 AM

no palsut corey was talking about notladstyle pissing people off.

And when he put torque star> Tri Spoke he means that torque stars are better than tri spokes.
Posted by: palsut

Because they are the best OE wheels that were offered on the 97-03s Plus they are much better for track duty then any chrome 18" wheel.

Palsut youre tri-spokes are in a league of their own being completely polished. The standard ones I'll always associate with the Aztec.
Posted by: palsut

Re: my winter beater cleaning project - 10/15/08 11:21 AM

Yeah, I saw that. I just saying my both wheels are look good wink

That's his opinion. He hate torquefail... that's his choice lol

Yeah, I hate paint tri-spoke. I couldn't believe Aztek have one. I like mine better. Funny thing... Aztek saw my full custom polish other day. He asked me where to get that? I told him I got it on ebay. It was custom. Not Pontiac factory. He was disappointed lol
