Exit lighting?

I have a friend with an '02 coupe. He always wondered why those red lights at the rear of the inside door panels of his car don't work. He attempted to find any references to it in the OM, but couldn't. He's seen other GP's where these light whenever the door opens. I have no idea what the official name of these are, but we thought that his fully loaded GP should have these working too. He pried off a lense, wound up breaking it in half just to find there's not even a socket in there. It's just a fake light on his. He thought that maybe the union guys building his car got lazy and forgot to put bulbs in. Was this a feature GM discontinued on later GP's? Seems silly to have fake lights to me.

Pontiac went from lamps to reflectors. I forgot what year they did that. It's a safety feature so other cars can see the door is open at night not for lighting the door jamb to get in.

It wouldn't seem silly if they weren't there and you parked on the side of the road, opened your door, and had a passing car nail it.

I think my '97 had lights.

I think mine are lights on the front doors and reflectors on the back doors

I have a 1997, and 2 1998's (GTP and GTX) All have lights. 1996 was the last year I know that had them.

My 98 has lights in the door.

My '02 has reflectors.

MY 97 had lights in the front doors and reflectors in the back doors.
My01 had reflectors on all 4 doors

My 98 has reflectors

my 97 hd lights up front, and reflectors in back two doors, just like my 98 currently. I looked into putting lights in the rear doors, and there was only one way... splice into the front doors and fab them (wires and sockets) myself. I decided it wasn't worth it for that extra 20 watts of light!

my 98 gtp just has reflectors. kinda pisses you off when you pay so much for a car/truck and they don't put lights in.

you think buying a brand new f350 crew cab when we got it, that it would have them in back doors, but they took like $5 part out after 03 leaving the 04's with reflectors!
