FAKE!! - 06/22/07 07:59 PM

I was driving down the road last night and saw somthing caught my eye so I stopped and looked at it and it made me shake my head.

It was a 2002 GTX - Or was it?

The previous owner had tried to replicate a gtx and then traded it in and the dealer was listing it as a gtx.

It had the hood and spoiler but they looked awefully new next to the scuffed and scratched paint on the rest of the car.

It had some god awefull ugly rims on it that I wouldn't put on a station wagon.

Instead of having the slp exhaust the previous owner simply cut off the stock exhaust tips and quickly welded on some autozone specials.

And it had a simple KNN CAI under the hood.

The paint was in serious need of a lot of TLC and it had 109k on it and the dealer was asking $11,995.

So if anybody is in the green bay area and finds themselfs on velp ave. Find a little dealership called village auto and have yourself a good laugh at their expense.

Base GTX only had badges and SLP hood as exterior mods.
I believe the complete base GTX came with the Hood, CAI, 3.5" Pulley, and badges...... A Spoiler and Exhaust were only a couple of the options that you could add to the base model. The only other exterior mod that I can think of is the SLP racing stripes.

Did they have roof rails, or was that just the Special Editions?

Just Specials and 40th Anniv had the roof rails.

Just to be sure you can always run the VIN and see if it's a real GTX or not.

Also if you are in the area and looking at it a quick way to tell is to measure the S/C pulley. It should be a 3.5"

Re: FAKE!! - 06/23/07 05:45 PM

I hadn't though of that, Herc. Surely, the dealership would have run the VIN, and seen that it wasn't a GTX...? lol Morons...

I have the roof rails too. By specials do you mean the Daytonas?

Re: FAKE!! - 06/24/07 03:04 AM

How would the VIN indicate whether it's a GTX or not?
Adding the GTX package was not done at the factory. It's just a "factory authorized" addition that could be done to any GP by any dealer as long as it was done by a certified SLP installer.

That's what I was thinking too, because my VIN shows a 4 door GP SE, but it's not!

Re: FAKE!! - 06/24/07 03:13 PM

Pontiac knows which VINs went to GTX. The VIN code it self might not show it but the records will show.

Re: FAKE!! - 06/24/07 10:27 PM

So, this is information that would be obtained through a new car Pontiac Dealer.
Not something that would show on carfax?

Re: FAKE!! - 06/25/07 06:41 AM

Something like a GTX upgrade should be listed on CARFAX.

Re: FAKE!! - 06/25/07 08:55 AM

even if some gtx's only came with hood and stuff it is obvious that the hood and spoiler are brand new because the paint is nice on the hood and spoiler and there is almost non existant clear on the rest of the car.

Unless he could only afford to have the hood and the spoiler repainted and sold his rims to do it.

Re: FAKE!! - 06/26/07 09:39 AM

2001 SE's had the optional roof rails, hood, and wheels that the 2000 Daytona Pace Car came with. Not sure if they had the Daytona spoiler or not.
