theone2043, I have to ask you to edit or remove your post.

While I cannot make you, many of you fellow board members have served/are serving/will be serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The last thing I want this topic of Tribute and Remberance to become is a flame war against Bush, the War in Iraq, or our country.

Hey, I'm sure we understand. It's a sore topic for all of us I'm sure, no matter where we are coming from.

Regardless of what you believe as far as details about the attack on Sept. 11th, it is still a horrible loss of many innocent lives and they will be remembered.

I went to the Tribute today in Manhattan after class and it was bad, as a very not emotional type of guy, i even started to let it go. 5 of my friends were there when it happened and the Cemetry was even worse then the Site itself.

I feel for the families that have been directly and indirectly affected by the events of 9/11.
I just think that the government is being very slow and quiet about letting the families and public know what happened on that day.

this will be a day that will forever be linked to my past...my wife was still in NYC when this happened and I had been there the day before...she was down on the Staten Island waterfront taking pics when it took place, so she saw the whole thing...she cannot even bear to look at pics because of what she witnessed...not even the ones she took herself.

I'm glad I had gotten the chance to visit the WTC before all this took place...the towers were like a directional beacon, visible from pretty much the whole island of Manhattan.
The structures themselves were quite beautiful both inside and out...the courtyard in between was lovely as well and I remember so clearly admiring the sculpture that survived...the sphere is a testament to spirit and survival all on its own. The courtyard was one of the fewplaces that even native new yorkers stil looked skyward with wonder.
The view from atop the towers was one of wonder and awe with the statue of liberty appearing almost like gift shop souviner in the harbor below.
I went with my wife into lower manhattan after ferry service had been restored...not so much from curiosity but because she needed to...it was almost like attending a wake...the people of NYC had lost so much and they needed to mourn...not just for the family and friends but for this icon of their lives that had been murdered before their eyes. It still moves me when I think of how long the mighty towers held on...almost as though they were buying time to let as many escape as possible...then one at a time the wounded giants fell in on themselves, almost as if to preserve as much of the surrounding city as they could.
to see the aftermath of this devastation first hand almost defies description...no amount of photos will ever compare to the images in my mind of what I saw and smelled and touched.
The barges that carried load after load of rubble to the Staten Island dump and the lights that burned every night as the people there sifted thru...I feel so deeply for them and they job they had to do.
Never Forget hardly seems like enough to say.

This day really was one that changed my life. It's one that I'll never forget. Both the sadness and the heroism that day...

For those of you that haven't seen the movie World Trade Center, I recommend it. It's a great story about two Port Authority officers who ran into the buildings. Very moving.
