I think that was posted here before, or something similar. The problem is, they consider any part on the car with a missing vin as stolen, even if the label was painted over or lost.

I disagree, but then again, I want to become a cop, so taking someone's 500+hp Mustang for myself sounds like fun. devilsmile

Kind of strange to distroy the item instead of giving it back to the owner. But I guess tracing the original owner is impossible and I don't want pieces of my car returned after it went through a chop shop.

Kind of sad though. I would hate to see my car destroyed all because the place I took it to put in a stolen tranny. Now that's messed up.

A reputable business isn't gonna deal in stolen parts. Best to scrap em this way the state shows they aren't confiscating em for a means of income. What surprised me the most is how little of a pile is left when it's all said and done.

On a side note did you guys catch the white cars with the black hoods? If you look close enough it's black paint and not CF. lol

Chrysler mad a few cars like that back in the '70s. One was the 'Cuda AAR and the other was the Challenger T/A. Both had black, fiberglass hoods. wink

those were hondas, the stolen engines were probably b18 out of gsr's, that is bs that they would shred and destroy something like that. i don't care what they do with it, just don't waste it. that is why i'm not to fond of police.

The police don't make policy. Your anger is toward the wrong people.

What do you want them to do with the cars? They can't give em back to the people they confiscated em from because the parts were stolen to begin with. The parts are usually untracable so you can't return em to the original owners who by that time insurance companies have ate the cost and they don't want "parts" if the municipality uses em for undercover work then they are accused of confiscating vehicles for profit and auctioning off you still run the risk of being accused of profiteering and plus those stolen goods are back in circulation.

Plus it's a good deterent.

good deterent, deterent for what, my gsr was stolen out of my driveway, insurance who supposedly "ate the cost"gave me and my parents half what the car would sell for and at the time there wasn't another gsr within 100 miles that was in as good a shape as ours. i know that engine and transmission are probably in some mexican's civic right now, but i would still hate to see that motor ground up. they can give them away to some officer who could USE it.

You still wouldn't get the motor back because the numbers are etched off so it can't be traced back to the rightful owner and if the police use it then the local govt. gets accused of taking the vehicles so they won't have to buy em. I'm sorry if your insurance wasn't good enough to get a new one but that's life.
