It's not scary if you don't do it.

It's not scary even if you DO do it. What are the odds?

The chance of paying off $1.9M over my life is enough of a threat for me to not even tempt the odds. Do you know how bad her kids are going to feel the effects of her decision?

They'll accept a settlement that won't be anywhere near $1.9M. It'll still end up being several hundred dollars per song, but not $80,000/each.

She was seeding files on Kazaa (I didn't even know people still used Kazaa). All of these cases go after the people who are seeding thousands of songs, not downloading.

Yep. They offered her $3-5k per song before which is $72-120k. But now I would expect a higher settlement. They have her by the balls so to speak. A few hundred Gs is still a lot for a mom of four. That's like having a second mortgage. I doubt she's well off enough to easily afford that without sacrificing big time for her kids.

What got me the most was her comment about "I'm a mom of four, I've got limited means". It's like she doesn't care.

I don't have sympathy for her.

Not sure where your math is coming from... They offered to settle for $3000-$5000 total, 24 songs listed in the case. That comes to $125-$210/song. Since she was really sharing 1700 songs (perportedly), that's like $2-$3/song.

Like you say I assume that will go up since she has a judgement against her, but I would still expect it to be a HUGE discount over $80k/song.

I guess I misread it. I thought the RIAA original settlement was $3k-5k per song.

Hell, if it was only a flat fee of $3k I would have paid that. It would have been cheaper than an attorney.

EDIT: this article said her original settlement offer was $220k. That's $9k per song. Still enough to set her family back $1500 per month for 30 years.

$220k wasn't the settlement offer, it was the verdict against her for the first trial, then they had a retrial and it went up to $1.9M.

Peer Guardian along with wire shark if you want to be anal and see exactly who comes into your comp through which ports. I had MIT in and out for a while that was funny lol I blocked em out of those ports and they kept trying to get through lol stupid nerds. Kazaa and Limewire get you blanked royally. Morphius was good and funny since they used to go to court every week and WIN against infringement because they changed they're setups and servers all the time. Now idk. Usually its $2 a song not 2k a song. They keep trying to make examples of ppl and sh*t but they offered her a diff settlement. They are absolute idiots for giving her the 1.9mill because she will end up taking loans from banks I.E screwing up our economy more. I'm telling ya some people are such mother fing morons lol and by that I mean the jury. oh well.
