Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/28/06 08:54 PM

I don't get it... tons of the stuff says "NASCAR style" yet it looks nothing like what was on the stock cars. Exhaust? Should be a side exit, not rear. Spoiler? Looks stock, but NASCAR was a 3 piece going over the tail lights. 300hp must mean crank, seeing as all I read was intake and PCM (tranny wasn't touched). Impala brakes (doesn't specify Baer or anything), and GMPP handling package.

Looks nice, but it's not much more than a name. Hope it goes to a good home though.

i love the paint job but its not worth it. probably doesnt put out as much as described with that little of work.

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/29/06 07:46 AM

I think that car has been for sale for quite some time now.
I would question the 300HP, with such minimal mods.
How was the transmission upgraded? Just by having the shift points increased? That's not an upgraded transmission, that's an upgraded PCM.

Exactly what was doen to the exhaust? Does it still have the stock oem D/P?

It's a very nice car, but unfortunately the members here have a little more knowledge about how to mod a 3800 V6 than you think.
The only way a hi-flow intake and a reprogrammed PCM will net you 300hp, is if you just tell people that and expect them to believe you.

How much did they want for it?

Alot, if I remember right. Like 50k+.

I think ..

It was on ebay for a long time.

2fast,
You forgot to factor in the carbon fiber engine cover in your horsepower calculations... wink

Nice looking car, love the color...a friend of mine, a big Tony Stewart fan, wanted to do a similiar tribute, on his 88 Formula Firebird. Thankfully it never made it past the primer stage... laugh

This thread was probably not what the seller had in mind....

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/29/06 09:40 PM

the seller will most likely never check it again. They left their number and a link to their web site. They're most likely just carpet bombing all the GP sites.

Lol, this whole listing is complete bull. Try selling to some rich guy who doesn't know or care.

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/30/06 01:47 AM

I do like the exhaust and paint scheme on it though.

Throw on some Nascar tires like Hercman has (and a better set of rims and it would LOOK nice.
Posted by: Blackarrow98GP

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/30/06 08:23 AM

X2 on the exhaust and paint scheme, and I'm sure if someone does buy it, they'll no doubt mod it to their own tastes. wink

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/30/06 10:59 PM

The main thing that kills it is the wheels. The custom paint is nice.

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 12/31/06 10:59 AM

I beleve they tuned the hell outta it. What did they do, put 60lb fuel injectors on and crank the timing so it runs like nascar. I'm with Austin, what about the down pipe and u-bend. Gotta get all that exhaust out if you put all that fuel and air in.....

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 12:48 PM

No, this thread is not what I had in mind. But I do check back and am interested in what all of you have said. But I must say you are all way off base on this car. It is toatally unique and one of a kind. All that has been written about this car is true.

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 03:15 PM

Can you enlighten us on how 300hp was achieved?
According to what's been written about the car, 300hp is a long way away with such minmal mods.

When someone comes in here and starts boasting 300hp with an intake and a reprogrammed PCM, we're going to ask for documentation.

Got a dyno sheet?

How did you come up with the 300hp figure?

http://thrashercharged.com/showcase_htm/richard_petty_gp.shtm

Here's a little more on the car. But just like what was stated, not much done to get 300hp. They cranked up the timming, added cold air, and put bigger injectors on it......
Posted by: AustinGTP

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 06:15 PM

We're obviously not getting any answers.

One thing for sure is the car does not put out 300hp.
It still has the weak oem D/P and U-bend has not been deleted.

How much torque are you claiming to put on that stock transmission?

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 07:24 PM

the pic shows a silver s/c pulley, they are black from the factory right?
Posted by: AustinGTP

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 09:22 PM

Yes, S/C pullies are black from the factory.
Posted by: HercMan(Rob)

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 09:24 PM

Without supporting exhaust mods a smaller pulley won't get you the 300.
Posted by: brown

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/02/07 09:33 PM

dyno slip/chart would clear all this up.
Posted by: ordonez1307

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/03/07 12:08 AM

i like the car a lot...with some real mods it could be a pretty sweet 300+hp car... and putting a smaller pulley on without even a DP or even a u-bend delete. Thats crazy
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/03/07 10:17 PM

That IS crazy. I think they forgot to mention what else the car comes with... a crap load of KR!

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 10:03 AM

It's ok but I've seen better looking and faster GPs.

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 12:52 PM

The engine is has a true 300 HP. This was a GM prototype modified by Delphi with totally new fuel maping, induction from the air filter back. They told Canepa at the time that they have been able to get 360HP but the tranny would not hold up. So they "De-tuned" back to product a true 300HP. Canepa has the documentation and dyno sheets. This car will smoke the tires in every gear!

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 04:44 PM

so will mine laugh and im only askin $25,000
this is a fun topic:)
well anyway if you have all the documentation, could u post it so we could see it?
and another thing i cant figure is why if its that easy to get 300 HP why everybody dosent do it?
u say induction(s/c, TB, and CAI) and fuel mapping( performance pcm)
so....
throttle body $150 10 hp
ported s/c $150 15 hp
Intake $300 5 hp
PCM $100 15hp

what size pully are you guys running on the supercharger???

i could see the engine MABE getting that much HP but not at the wheels where it counts.

yall seem so uptight about letting us know everything youve done to the car in detail
could you just give use every thing done to it so we could all have 300 hp cool

then again i think theres more done to it than you guys are saying there is
i think i saw headers in a picture of that car

just maek a list copy and paste it here thumbsup
Posted by: 2fast4u

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 04:47 PM

were not saying that car cant have 300 hp( cuz 300 hp is common in our cars) were just saying for the mods you say it has, it couldent have 300 HP
Posted by: HercMan(Rob)

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 05:14 PM

Not all the mods are listed. They do talk about a high flow catback. But no mention of the pulley which looks to be about a 3.25. There probably is a big DP in there as well.

So for the benefit of the doubt...

So with a 3.25, DP, exhaust, intake and programming 300chp is plausable.
Posted by: ordonez1307

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 06:03 PM

Can we get a dyno sheet and a list of mods? Detailed...instead of just claiming 300h.p. give us some real stuff
Posted by: AustinGTP

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/04/07 06:19 PM

Canepa,
Thanks for checking on this thread and replying to it.
I think we are all very intersted in finding out the exact difference between your engine and stock oem engine.

Please post up a complete list of the mods as it would appear that only a partial list is posted.

What size pulley is on the S/C?
Is it intercooled?

And please do post a copy of the dyno sheet.

You've got all of our ears perked up like little puppies.

When some is bored and emails bruce for details, be sure to post dyno sheets here. This might be an interesting jewel if it has 300whp and not crank.

It would be interesting, but I'm sure it's out of my price range.

Re: Prototype Petty Anniversy Edition Grand Prix - 01/06/07 12:40 AM

this is all I got out of them

"Don't know what to tell you but the motor was done by GM & Delphi and is 300HP. They actually developed a motor that got 360HP+ but the tranny wouldn't handle it, too much torque steer. We figured out how to fix that problem but GM didn't want to bother so they went with the 300HP motor. It is supeercharged with revised pulley ratios for more boost.

The car is perfect in show condition.

All the best,

I've seen that adv. before about a year ago and seeing it on one of the GP sites but can't remember where. Iirc it was priced way out of wack and because of that I guess it didn't sell.

Someone over on CGP is claiming this car sold at Barrett-Jackson over the weekend for $80k.

I've done a mild search for it on Barrett-Jackson's website and I can't find anything about it.

confused

Then I think someone at Barrett-Jackson either got taken for a ride, or is a big Richard Petty fan.

Yep after scrolling through the preliminary auction results and cars on the auction block I'd say that car wasn't even offered at Barrett Jackson.
