lol

Congrats. :p I remember when I had 24k dialup not too long ago. It took forEVER to do anything, and disconnections were rampant.

Highspeed is so much nicer isn't it? laugh

Re: I got me some High Speed Internet!!!(problem fixed) - 04/20/05 12:11 PM

Hope its more stable then my college's network. I downloaded a song (this was actually legal) at 612 bps, not kbps. Then an hour later, download a game demo at 1100 kbps. Its great when its not overloaded.

Re: I got me some High Speed Internet!!!(problem fixed) - 04/20/05 09:27 PM

High speed rules, I got it about six months back once the cable company finally made it's way out into the country. Road Runner has been pretty stable so far, and a vast improvement over dial-up

Re: I got me some High Speed Internet!!!(problem fixed) - 04/22/05 08:40 AM

So the guy shows up last night at 7:00, at 12:30 he left and I still have no high speed i-net. banghead
We think my nic is bad. I've never used it. I'm going to buy a new one tonight and plug it in and see if it works.

The thing about my computer... a lot of the factory software was loaded up on the morning of 9/11/01. You can see the times and the last recorded time is around 8:45-8:55am, then nothing after that. The days start up agian on 9/12/01. Kinda freaky...

I like Roadrunner, Now the USB connection rather than the standard Eithernet, i dont like, but i heard they are the same, time warner saving some money i guess. Every once and awhile my conn acts up but with constant maintenance and a good Tweaker TCP Opimizer im satisfied with a steady 3.84 mb . Well untill Optical is availible for me. Soon, i cant wait.

Try looking under Customize Privacy Settings in the Privacy CP and ensure that Secure Connections are enabled.

Also, what version of NIS/NPF do you have?

BTW, there's almost no risk in briefly disabling the PF whilst your browse HTTPS sites.

Perchance do you have the XP firewall on as well?

Few suggestions. Explorer based access

Turn off the pop-up blocker

Internet Explorer SP2 includes the ability to block pop-up windows. This new feature may block some Web pages. To turn off the Pop-Up Blocker, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click Internet Explorer, click Internet Properties.
2. Click the Privacy tab.
3. In the Pop-Up Blocker section, click to clear the Block pop-ups check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click OK.

Configure security, content, and advanced settings in Internet Explorer
Configure the security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer

Note Only add those sites that you trust as a trusted site. If you are not sure about a Web site, do not add the Web site to the Trusted sites list.
1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click Trusted sites, and then click Default Level.
3. Add any SSL-secured (128-Bit) Web sites to the Trusted sites zone. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Sites.
b. Type the URL of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box.
c. Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply.

Reset the Security Zones to the default settings

1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click Internet, and then click Default Level.
3. Click Local Intranet, and then click Default Level.
4. Click Trusted sites, and then click Default Level.
5. Click Restricted sites, and then click Default Level.
6. Click Apply.
7. On the Privacy tab, click Default, and then click Apply.

Clear the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) state and the AutoComplete history

1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click the Content tab.
3. In the Certificates section, click Clear SSL State, and then click OK.
4. In the Personal information area, click AutoComplete.
5. In the Clear AutoComplete history area, click Clear Forms, and then click OK.
6. Click Clear Passwords, and then click OK three times.

Verify that Internet Explorer is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0

1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Security, click to select the Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 check boxes (if they are not already selected), and then click Apply.
4. Click Restore defaults.
5. Click Apply.
6. Click OK.

Third-party browser extensions

Some third-party browser extensions and add-ons may interfere with how Internet Explorer views certain Web pages. To turn off these extensions, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Internet Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click Ok.
6. Start Internet Explorer, and then try to reproduce the issue.
If the issue does not occur, you can try to determine which third-party browser extensions may be causing the problem. To revert to the original settings, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, right-click Internet Explorer, click Internet Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click to select the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click the Programs tab.
6. Click Manage Add-ons.
7. Click Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer.
8. Select all but the first of the add-on check boxes that are installed.
9. Click Disable.
10. Click OK.
11. Start Internet Explorer, and then try to reproduce the issue.
If the problem does not occur, select the next Add-on check box in the list, and then try to reproduce the problem. Select each check box in turn until you determine which add-on is causing the problem. When you have determined this add-on, contact the software manufacturer for information about updates for the add-on.

If problem persists, please feel free to contact me with any information/questions concerning Windows/Dos/Bios, or any little peave on your mind.

Re: I got me some High Speed Internet!!!(problem fixed) - 04/28/05 11:55 AM

Hmm.
I know this must be annoying but could you explain the problem to me again.

The basis ive got so far is
Windows XP platform (os)
Windows and Norton Firewall
Norton Anti-vir.
No sec. sites working.

The following information is not necessary but will help.

Explorer your main server? (aol/roadrunner/etc.etc.)
Windows up to date? Leagal Windows version?
Norton up to date?
By chance any errors on startup? Or any other time?
Is your time correct? As in clock/calendar. ?

Try using Mozilla Firefox as a web browser instead of leaky, insecure Internet Explorer. wink
