Yes, I too heard this, but only about the Camaro. Due to return in 07, I think?

The Camaro returning has been rumored since before they shut down the assembly lines on the old one.

From gminsidenews.com

Camaro/Chevelle- Chevy has an all new sporty coupe set to debut in 2007 on the Zeta platform. This car is very similar to the 2007 GTO, with the exception of tighter styling. At this point the assumption is that this car will be the all new Camaro. There is however an outside rumor that this car may be hastily redesigned and given a more appropriate name such as Chevelle. Then GM would design a Camaro on an all new midsized RWD platform loosely based on a lengthened Kappa platform. This platform (rumored to be called "Beta") was first previewed in the Holden Torana TT36 concept shown at the 04 Sydney International Auto Show. This would slightly delay a Camaro to possibly 2008. Either way, we will keep you updated!

GM wants Holden to be the designer for all thier high perf cars. I've been watching Holden for a while now and they do make a good car. Remember the old F bodies were built in Canada. I really don't mind where they are designed or built. As long as they are GM products that kick the poop out of the competition.

I guess i just miss the firebird...but I fear as long as the goat is around we wont be seeing the bird anymore...I guess gm felt it was too close to the vette...while a new camaro/chevelle would give the chevy dealer something along the same line as the GTO....but I'm afraid the goat will have to get a lot more aggresive looking before it gets my blood pumping the way that WS6 bird did.

...and what about a convertible?

Re: Camaro........ - 11/12/04 08:05 AM

Ok answers answers answers...

1.As long as Lutz in in GM there will be no Firebird - He stated that more than once and quite aggressivly.

2.There will be a 2nd RWD V8 Pontiac to go along with the Chevelle/Camaro duo. The Chevelle and GTO in 07 will both be availible with the converty option. May be a mid year release like usual but they will be here.

3.The platform will be revised in 07. The GTO will look different then..maybe not much, but different. So it may get the more aggressive of look between it and the - Tempest? or whatever they are gonna call the 2nd vehicle.

4. you say "hey that does not fit in to the scheme of things as they are now?!?!?!".. rumors are still the GP will retain its name but in 07 it maybe replaced by the GTO conterpart. Good news it it will either be RWD or AWD with front mount V8.

Re: Camaro........ - 11/15/04 04:06 AM

G8- Large RWD Sedan based of Zeta Platform with debut around 2007/08. Will be powered by both a 3.9L V6, and 5.3/6.0L V8's. Replacement for the Bonneville, and possibly the Grand Prix
Grand Prix- The Grand Prix will receive a GXP version in late MY 2005 as a 2006 . It will be powered by a 280-300 HP 5.3L LS4 powertrain. unfortunately, the 4 speed automatic transmission will remain until 2007 (at the earliest) when it is replaced by a 6 speed automatic. Also, the current 3800 engine series will be discontinued in 2006/07, replaced by the 240 hp 3.9L V6. In 2008, the Grand Prix will either be replaced by the G8 sedan, or carry on along side it.

I think I posted that before. But anyways bye bye 3800 frown cheers to a great engine.

No way Pontiac can discontinue the grand prix, that's the longest running nameplate in pontiac. Came before the 'bird, and stayed after it was discontinued. That would really blow if they did away with the grand prix, glad i've got two just in case. And is that 240 horse 3.9 NA or blown?

Re: Camaro........ - 12/18/04 08:46 AM

It's NA doesn't quite have the low end torque but sounds like it'll be a good motor.

Im sure 100% of the people in america thought that about Firebird/Trans Am too. No way pontiac would kill and not revive its pony/muscle car.
