Re: Grand prix web page - 02/01/05 01:32 PM

I like this forum very much, but sometimes for the ones who doen't know much it would be great to have:

1. Meaning of all that Initials you use ( FWD, RWD, FWI, ) i know this but it would be helpful to have a kind of vocabulary.
2. The technical info of our cars, with the upgrades it had in every new model.
3. A place where anybody can put his expenses in every repairment or upgrade, so we have a friendly database of this.
4. Kind of GRAND PRIX PROBLEMS but with the "How I RepĂ ired it" cause in the GP Page usually says "WARRANTY" (not very helpful)
5. An album for the member's cars.

Well this is what i'd like to see in your page...will you accept members from everywhere or just local?

Congrats hope you have a very good page!!!

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/01/05 01:35 PM

I would definately like to see a list of detailed walkthroughs for the common mods, you could use links to tac if you want but I think it would look better if you built it into your site, maybe a list of recals or a link to the GM recal list. I would definately like to see (anywhere) a list of the approximate expected gains from each mod, or a chart that might help you guess what power level you are at, and maybe help you choose which mods to do next. Something like a suggested mods order list. (definately a whole page that exlplains the need for having a scanner if you mod your car) Lots of pics, some information about the different vendors and what each of the owners has done with thier grand prixs (mainly the intens and zzperformance GTP's). Maybe a list of all the different changes from year to year in the grand prix models, again you could use a link, a list of all the special edition models like the pace cars and the F.1 edition and the others (with pics), agian you could use a link for this.

This are just a few that I would put on an informative page for the pontiac grand prix. One thing I would stress is that for the most part you can pretty much find out anything you want to know about anything you want to know it about on the internet, if you konw where to look. The thing that makes a webpage good is having a lot of resources that are easily accessible and all in one location. You have to make people say "sure I can go to club gp and read about the fastest grand prix's, but I would rather go to herc's site cause its easier to use, or it looks better, or even I like it better" ya know what I'm sayin?

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/01/05 02:30 PM

Great suggestions.

Maybe you could dumb it down even further with lots of pictures and "Required Tools" for each mod or repair along with "Estimated time". I like to know what I'm getting into before a launch a project: knowing what I should expect to see, what tools are needed, and how much of my day it's going to take up.

As far as structure, I think maybe a "mod" section and a "repair" section. Have each one broken down like pfyc or zzp (drivetrain, brakes and suspension, exhaust, etc)

If you could include GM part numbers that would be cool.

Maybe upload the owners manual if you can get it in Pdf format (not sure if you'll have a copywrite issue here though).

Definitely need a comprehensive link to all the part suppliers.

Just a few more ideas...

I think there would be a copywrite issue. Isn't there an address for online manuals??? Thought I saw one recently.

heres what I've thrown together so far. It's not much but it will get there. The FAQs page needs some editing I know it tweaked out on me when I published it so I'll make changes. Don't flame too hard.

Excellent start. If I had access to something like this, I would not have asked so many dumb questions. laugh

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/01/05 06:22 PM

Looks great Herc!
Here's some info you might be able to use on how to replace the lights in your DIC jawdrop :
http://www.claver.com/grandprix/howtofix.htm#DIC

I'd like to see some info on the subtle changes between each of the years, 97-03.
For instance, didn't some of the 97's come with liquid filled turn signals, or something like that? Most people don't know about these subtle difference's.
I like lots of pics of various GP's. Something with pics big enough to use as wallpaper or to make a screen saver with.

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/01/05 07:23 PM

I'll add that too smile

I plan on having a photo page. I'm getting the basics down first though smile Then I'll have all of you email me your favorite pics And they'll be posted. smile

Actually email me some photos that I can use for each page like I did with the home page.

I'll get a good pic of my car on the rocks. It's been raining here and my dig cam broke. Gotta borrow a cam and clean the car up.
I'll send you one as soon as I can get a good updated one.

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/01/05 11:30 PM

Looks good Herc! I agree with the suggestions posted so far, maybe you could find a list of some of the harder to find information -- i.e. what the various paint codes are, how to decode the sticker on the underside of your trunk lid, dimensions of exhaust setup (ID and OD, etc.),
You could also put "package" lists in the mod section. As in, "To make a fun, fast daily driver these mods are suggested..." or "To make a drag racing speed machine with absolutely no concern for mileage and wear-and-tear these mods are suggested" sort of setup

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/02/05 10:43 AM

I've added some more stuff. I gotta quit workin on it this morning. The wife will get mad if I don't get some of the work done around the house. I'll update some more later today hopefully. Keep those ideas coming. And if you have answers to some of those questions like the OD and ID of the exhaust post it or if you can think of some other questions we answer on a regular basis throw those upto. I'm still tryin to figuere out how I'm gonna work the "mods" page bear with me. I'm still learnin how this whole internet thing works. I'm just tryin to get the information up then I can tweak how it will look and be accessed. I have to see it on the screen in action to get a feel for how it runs. smile

Re: Grand prix web page - 02/02/05 11:42 AM

Maybe also list items that need to be avoided -- i.e. the tornado or whatever they call it, the "speed chip", etc.
A few questions I've seen here and on other forums are "how do I reprogram my key and/or keyless entry?" "What's the differences in the transmissions of the SE/GT/GTP?" "Why doesn't my 4' tall wing make my Grand Am faster than a GTP?" devilgrin

Let me know what else you'd like to see, what would make it work easier etc. I thought of doing my own write ups but there is so much out there I thought I'd just hot link to em.

Re: Grand prix web page - 03/04/05 07:55 AM

that "signs by drex" site is pretty wild...those must be some pretty potent decals that stick on a hot brake caliper!
Posted by: AustinGTP

Re: Grand prix web page - 03/04/05 09:05 AM

I think PFYC has the caliper decals, or maybe it was ClubGPstore.
I thought about getting them when I painted my calipers, but I was wanting a GTP, or Pontiac decal, not a Grand Prix decal.

Re: Grand prix web page - 03/04/05 10:51 AM

I saw a GTP brake decal somewhere. Can't remember where though. banghead But, they are out there.....
