Has anyone added a remote start to their Grand Prix. Is it a pain to install? Should one leave it to a professional? How much does one cost to install? I think it would be a good feature this winter.

I remember last year that girl in red car got remote start that her boyfriend got her as gift I believe. I don't know if she actually installed them last year. I'm not sure if she still on this site. Haven't seen her user name for while.

I'm wondering how they are as well. The older I get the more I hate winter.

I have a compustar alarm/remote start. It works well. If you are not good at electrical and wiring, then I would suggest having a professional do it. I paid about 500 for mine. But if your just looking for the remote start, they can be had for cheaper I think around 200ish.

I'm pretty sure mine cost about 200 including installation. I would just have a professional do it, much easier and cleaner.
I guess price depends on how fancy of a starter you want.

I have one and love it. However, if you are not comfortable with running a few wires through the firewall, cutting and splicing wires nor have electrical know-how I wouldn't suggest doing this yourself.
That said, there are a few good websites to look at if you plan on doing this yourself, such as 12volt.com and bulldogsecurity.com.
Those 2 websites will tell you which color wire is for what and where it is located.
Expect atleast a few hours to install this.

Well, didnt get ahold of Mandy, but I happened on Kristin J., whose husband has a remote start. he got the good one (Viper) and she said to expect about $400 for the start and the alarm installed. Her advice is to have a pro install it since it could get a bit tricky. The range on the thing is roughly half-mile.
most likely, she's reading this by now, so thank you for your time, Kristin.

My car goes in next Wed for a remote start/keyless entry/trunk/alarm combo. I lost my factory key fob so I figured now was the right time for the remote start, especially since it is almost winter. Going to be roughly $400 installed.

So, I just got a response from 98GTPGirl. Here it is:
Hey. Ya its been awhile since i have been on there . I will try to login soon but until I do . . . You can tell him I really like having this option it was cheap i think he paid like forty dollars then the guy charged us thirty to install it . I waited a good two hours but alot of that was programming the remote itself if I remember right. I havent had any issues with it. Lol i will login asap im on my phone and its sucking. Sorry thanku tho for getting ahold of me.

I bought the Compustar starter/alarm 2way remote combo. Its awesome. I haven't the slightest on how to install it, i'm sure its nothing fun at all having to by-pass something like the alarm from the factory. I would pay to get it done. installation was included with the cost of my remote

I installed one in my 03 GT when I first bought it, I believe it was a Code CA670 and its working like a champ.
Its not complicated to install if you have 3-4 hours and know the basic concepts of DC electrical system.
I would suggest you solder every wire in order to ensure longevity.
Also, in grandprix you will need to wire all of the individual door sensors into one output for the alarm's door sensor so buy diodes.

I installed one in my old GP. Had to wire in and program the passkey 3 bypass. Took about an entire day, but I do allot of automotive electrical so for someone who doesnt know what your doing, goto a shop and have it done.
