Ok, I went to my local pontiac dealer today (big mistake they always seem to rape me some how) and I explaned to them that my transmitter's lock button didn't work and it had terrible range, and they tested the transmitter and said that the transmitter works fine, but I need a new reciver ($205.50) Does anyone know where the reciver is located in the car?, I can try to see if I can find it in my haynes repair manual, but I have to find it 1st. I know how to fix electronic components so its worth a shot looking at it so maybe I can save myself money.

I just tired to re-sync it, but it didn't do anything. Now the guy at the dealership said that the transmitter worked fine and all the buttons work, but I told him that the lock button did not work so I can't re-sync the transmitter

the remote lock reciever is located behind the left side of the instrument panel near the steering column.

I'd change the battery and see if it cures the problem. If the battery is weak, then the transmitter won't send a strong enough signal. I'm sure the battery will run you less than a couple of dollars.

Yes im with them .Take your battery to walmart and have them test it. It only cost like 5 bucks. You can get a new one at the flea market or on Ebay. I doubt it is the receiver. I rarely hear about those going out.

If you end up having to buy a receiver then may as well get an aftermarket alarm, it will have more features & will keep your car safer than the "cookie cutter alarm"

$300 will get you a real nice one. I had a Black Widow in my Prelude and I loved it, It was $200.00, although since then Black Widow made their alarms more installer friendly and a little less user friendly. The one I had on my Prelude the transmitter controlled EVERYTHING with the alarm. Now there are a few options that must be operated with the key in the ignition...tap your foot twice...whistle three times...wink twice...etc.

I agree! If they're going to charge you that much, I'd go ahead and get an alarm with a two way pager and a starter, blah blah blah.
I had a buddy who was an installer. On his GTP he set up the aftermarket fob so that it could close his windows and sunroof if they were open!

I'm going to take that reciver out tomorrow but I need to know exactly where its at, I dont want to take everything apart and find that I didn't need to take all this extra shit to get at it. Anyone know where it is located?

My Opinion. The two way pagers are annoying. A guy and friend i work with has one and the damn thing is constantly beeping, Its just annoying.......PLus sometimes it beeps for the fun of it and other times it doesnt beep at all, besides teh max range on the pager is like 3/4 miles, usually you are going to be close enough to see it, and if the alarm goes off its going to deter the theif and by the time you get tot e car the person is gone. thats just me...

How about just cleaning the contacts for the problem button? Open the fob with a coin, peel the rubber button cover up, turn it over and you'll see a circuit board. Pry the circuit board out of the rubber button cover and with a clean cloth rub off all the crud that's built-up over the years on both halves. Better yet use a lint free cloth and a little alcohol (no not the drinking kind!). This worked great for my VCR's remote control.
