I have knocking noise in when hit bumps but also same noise when shifting from p to drive? I replaced swaybar it was broken at the ends and links also replaced upper torque mounts they were worn. i had somebody say the noise coming from transmission could it be play in the differntial part of the trans? I heard of this problem similar on a chrysler sebring play in planetary gears. they also rec struts oe 130k and rest of lower motor and trans mounts. maybe i trade it in for 07, 08 gxp found some cheap deals on some low mileage v8 models. Please help seems to be getting more frequent and if trans goes then I banghead will be trading it in.

I'd look at the tranny mount and the lower motor mounts.

Like Herc said, it is probably your tranny mount.

Do you get the clunk going from park to reverse and going from drive to reverse as well?

check your motor mount. If you take off the passenger wheel, its right there. Mine is in really rough shape, yours probably is too.

yes it clunks both drive and reverse gears i noticed the clunking on acceleration short bursts too low speeds and sometimes at low speeds when i hit bumps i hear the same noise they say possible steering shaft but it doesnt do that when turning. so would try mounts first if doesnt fix probably trans noise.

def motor mount....mines makin the same noise...especially wen you shift the car (I do it for breaking and accelerating around turns staying in one gear).....If i have it in 1st and acc. to a slow speed and let off around a turn it will clunk....just havnt had time to replace it yet

Just double foot if you want to keep your rpms up around a corner (1 on gas, 1 on brake). Forcing the transmission into 1st can be rough on it if it isn't already there.
