hey im sure this question has come up a million times before in here but in my gtp i just got a pillar gauge set im doin boost and voltage, my question is, is there an actual wire that tells that little useless boost gauge in the on board what the boost is and if so can i tap it for an analog gauge? or does that thing in the dash really tell nothing at all-would appreciate input

Is there such thing as an aftermarket electronic boost gauge?

The indicator in the DIC gets it's reading from the PCM, which monitors the MAP Sensor. Fed by a wire the DIC boost inicator is an electronic gauge. I don't think an aftermarket gauge will hook up behind the dash.

All of the boost gauges I've seen are mechanical. Meaning they have tubing that tees into the vacuum line going to the MAP sensor under the hood. The only wires are for illumination.

Yeah, I've never heard of an electric boost gauge. Just like crimpton said, it will Tee into a vacuum line off of the MAP sensor, I believe on the GTP's that is somewhere around the LIM, on the left half of the engine bay (if you're looking straight at it)

I like mechanical because it relys on the pressure not an eletrical current jsut my .2

Theres quite a few lines to tap into for vac/boost around the top of the engine.

There are electronic boost gauges that use their own MAP sensor (maybe replace the stock one with it?) and cost at least double of a mechanical one.

Disagree... electronic components can be made more reliable than mechanical. I always see (clubgp often) mechanical boost gauges that don't read correctly, including mine. They become miscalibrated or something. Due to the price and availability mechanical is the way to go, though.

You'll never see me run a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Can you say mess and fire hazard if a line ever breaks?

Yea I wanted to run a mech fuel pressure guage and when I was about to order it I was thinking in my head I'm going to light a cigar near my car and there is going to be a little leak that fumes are coming out of and bang...BYE BYE
