Is this the servo. Mechanic said mine is busted and to change it out will charge me exactly what it will cost. Its simple to change it out if in fact that is the servo - a few bolts and one electric connect and a cable to the throttle. Is there a way to test it?

I don't know about a way to test it. Does your cruise control work?

Anyway you can get the part new from an online parts dealer. A picture can be found at this link (it is part #1):

As you might suspect it is expensive new $250 from online parts dealer - over $300 suggested list. A salvage yard would sell for much cheaper - or find someone parting out their car.

No the unit does not work as when I removed the plastic connection for the cable to the throttle body, a yellow cord that holds the leader that connects to the cable for the throttle body was broken. I suppose after much usage( I am a big fan or cruise control) the string broke. I have not taken it apart but have a mind to.

Oops forgot to mention morad parts is a salvage yard operation specializing in GM 3800 parts. You can also check Ed Morad's ebay storefront.

Hmmm is the controller bad or do you need a new cable? The dealer does sell the cable separate or again salvage yard might do the trick.
