im very frustrated, heres the deal i drive my car somewhere, then it sits for a while, i come out and it wont start. turns over fine, but just wont start. had it towed for the 3rd time today and now it just did it again. every place i take it to says they cant find anything wrong with it. they test everything and cant find a thing wrong. so the alternative is im going to look for a new car tomorrow and i cant say im not happy to do it. lol if anyone has delt with similiar problems let me know although at this point i dont really care because i hate my car so much now i just dont even want it. if you want it let me know ill give you a great deal. oh yeah i forgot to mention it's sitting in a parking lot again right now and will be towed tomorrow so it will now be 4 times with no solution.

I and many others here haven't had any issues that's not associated with normal wear and tear. I don't care what manufacturer you point out they all have parts that wear.

You just need to find a new mechanic.

I've got dibs on the Torque Stars... wink

Geoff, it's just a guess, but it sounds like an ignition module problem to me, or possibly a bad fuel pump resistor. A car that cranks and doesn't start is either getting no spark, or no fuel.
And a good mechanic wouldn't let the car leave his shop knowing there's a problem with the car, especially an intermittent one. So don't give up on the car; find a good mechanic! smile

Also there are some cars that come off the line that have something wrong with them, also a good mechanic comes in handy all the time. Remember, if you take good care of your car, your car will take good care of your car.

+1 on the long live 3800!

Geoff,
Make sure you get a new fuel pump resistor as well. I talked to a friend of mine who heads up a GM dealer parts dept, and he said the resistor is a common problem on the GTPs. The GTs use a different setup. Good luck, and please let us know how it works out!

Edited to add: And change the fuel filter! I've seen lots of fuel pumps fail due to plugged filters.

Agree, Long live the 3800! (and the 3.1!)

I'd start with fuel pump, relays, wires, etc and move to the ignition system.

yeah deal, that was a joke i would never buy a foreign car. this car just kills me and i get the feeling that the fuel pump, resistor, and filter are not gonna solve the problem. i just have this weird feeling it's something really stupid like wiring or something. but whatever they are all being changed i will have the car back tomorrow. hopefully all will be good, i hate getting stranded places. lol
