well after some thought I think I am going to save up some cash while I have no real bills and try and see if I can push the limits and make 450 crank hp or 400 whp... I am going to buy a motor and have probubly zzp do a lot of the motor work that was I can send the motor off and when it gets back just do a motor swap because I can not afford downtime on the car... My question for anyone here would be should I buy a l67 motor ( 3.8l in the gtps) or should I get a na 3.8l... wich one would be better to get because I dont know it may be possible but I dont know if you can make that kind of power on a m90... So i guess what I am saying is if I have to go turbo I will but what do you think would be the best way to go.... I have a gtp now so I dont know what sencors are different or anything like that between the 2 engines?

you could try a northstar. but if this were my car and idea... I'd probably save the money up, sell off the GP and buy a TA or camaro SS. But thats just me.

well I thought about that but I put thought into it and if I did sell the gp I would get a 4cyl. turbo like a gti or maybe I would consider a rx7 but it depends on how much the build is going to cost I wont make a final decision until after winter

RX-7's are slow as hell with the non-turbo, I have one. The turbo rotaries are pretty nice and will get that lightweight car moving quick if you can even find one.

If you want to get the most bang for the buck, I don't think swapping to a completely different engine will be the thing to do.

You need to email ZZP with what goals you have in mind and your budget, and they will steer you in the right direction (for the most part).

You realize with that goal you are going to dump many thousands of dollars into your car, and have it less reliable.... so if you "cannot afford downtime" then this might not be the best idea.

true I know that is the hardest part is time money is not a huge issue but I might be looking after the winter is over at a 500+hp rx7 built by my friend so I dont know we will have to play it out and see what happens

You always seem to have some pretty lofty goals, no matter what car you're talkin about. 400 whp? We have v6's. It can be done, but yea, thousands of dollars later... why not just buy an LS1 powered car like brown said. Those TA's are amazing. But hey, just my .02

And good luck with that, yes an Ls1 has been swapped into a GP fwd and the cost was upwards of 14k and a lot of custom work and while the northstar will fit again a lot of custom work ,bottom line if your not a good mechanic and customizer your best option would be a turbo setup from stattama I'm sure he can hook you up DUDE .Chico.

I say go with the Rx-7! Because I own a couple, and know that they are at the top of the import game in everything (Drifting, Touge, Auto-X, Drag, etc). Yes the n/a's are slow (good daily drivers though), but remember that FD's (93-95)are all turbo'd and damn fast stock. You will prob have to sell off the GP (or even trade) and make the diff out of your own pocket though, they're worth a bit more. They have actually been appreciating lately, but if your saving up then that shouldnt be a big deal. IMO, a good call one your part. And if that doesnt work out, sell it and get a s5 (89-91 rx7) Turbo 2 (TII), and spend the extra $$$ on a street port, FMIC, and exhaust, Turbo upgrade...you get the idea. Check this place out... Rx-7 Club , But since you friend has a modded 7 then he should have already sent you there.

400hp, I'd say save the gp and get some heads, cam, intercooler. That will run you $7 grand parts and labor.....

Yeah but with the RX-7 you'll get about half the fuel economy! (N/A at least)

Steve looks like your best option is turbo. Cheap thing to do would be to mod your GTP the way everybody else does.

Well this is my theory...If you want performance you have to sacrafice economy! And remember...Fast and cheap isn't reliable, Cheap and reliable isn't fast, Fast and reliable isn't cheap!

If you go with a turbo + IC + beef up transmission, you will make 450 at the crank. There are a handful of folks making these numbers and the torque they put out is rediculous (570 ft/lbs)

Cost?
turbo (3.5k) + IC (1.1k) + beef up tranny (3k) = almost $7k.

The LS1 setup is way too expensive plus I would hate to be the person who changes the spark plugs in that thing. You would need linguini arms and fingers.

EDIT: Stick to the L67 for the lower compression ratio. Better for the turbo.
