The longer I stair at it, the less and less I see where the heck $250 went to! um, i spent $220 and free shipping for mine, i shopped around and got the best deal at anythingauto.com. OK the K&N may be overpriced but lets break it down, first a silicone coupler instead of a rubber sewer coupler next a polymer intake tube that resists heat soak instead of a pcv sewer pipe ,a huge K&N oval filter then a heat shield that looks like it belongs in the car,now if money is tight build your own and do'nt look back as I do'nt think there is any huge difference in intakes as long as the filter is big enough and the intake tube does'nt have to sharp of bends.Chico(pops) Thanks, chico! Plus "engineers" have done the studies and made the best product for our cars in a CAI. I agree the power gains are not really noticable, but again it's just a supporting mod. Bottom line, do whatever makes you happy in the end!

My mileage has increased almost exactly 1.7 mpg since I put the CAI on.
It's fairly easy to verify that, because I drive the same route to & from work every day, at almost exactly the same speeds, and hardly ever take the GP out on errands.
So the money I spent on my home-made has already been recovered, although I had the K&N filter from a previous mod that was never used. It's found a good home in the GP, that's for sure.
As for an increase in power, my butt-dyno tells me there's a little increase in low end torque, and a nice little extra push above about 3800rpm. But that's all subjective, and increase in mileage is real and worth if for that, if nothing else.

thread jack, is there a problem with FWI's getting water or snow in them? could that blow up the engine if that happened?

not if you have the splash guard. the way those are made, its REAL hard to get water up in there short of drivin through washouts or arroyos.

Richard is right. After my recent fender bender, I've had my splash gaurd out for a while. One day coming home it was raining pretty good and I was going through some deep puddles on the highway... and caused terrible engine studdering and stalling a few times. Now driving in rain is OK as long as I avoid puddles. I gotta get that thing fixed....

tazfootball2,
1. Where did you get your kit?
2. Does it come with a mount for the PCM?
Thanks!

There are a bunch of other places that have it too.
1. http://www.pfyc.com/pc/PN3002/GNUNDER/K%26N+Air+Intake+Kits+-+Pontiac.html
2. Yes

Is there a floor in the bottom of it cause it looks open to me. Plus does it seal up against the hood or is it open as well? Herc, if you were asking me that question(s), the answers are: Yes there is a bottom, that is where the PCM mounts to. And yes it kinda seals up to the hood. There's a rubber "bushing/seal" along the top edge of the box to meet with the hood. I mean its not perfect but it's not open. 1. Where did you get your kit?
2. Does it come with a mount for the PCM?
MACDRIVE, 1. AnythingAuto.com is the place where I bought mine. I paid $220 + free shipping, it came in about 4 days. Compared to pfyc.com, they want $259 + shipping. <--- F*** THAT! 2. Yes, you basically disconnect the PCM from the connectors, take out the 4 screws from the PCM, line the PCM up on the 4 holes on the bracket. Screw the sucker on there and that is done!

I just couldn't see spending $250. on a CAI. I would think they would all work around the same right?

The performance aspect of it is the exact same. Putting a box around it will help also

I understand that the box is to restrict the heat from the engine to the filter/intake but doesnt it restrict actual airflow to the filter/intake? Is that why the best way to get air in easier and colder (less heat) is a FWI???
