Who's buying this phone? I am not. Just wondering how cool it really is since all the commercials seem sweet. Let us know once you get one whomever you are!! Some info I heard also. AT&T ,who is providing the service I believe, I heard only has the contract for 6 months (maybe a year) then all the others can provide too. And also, I heard in December 07, should release the 2nd generation of it. Those are from friends inquiries.

looks like a cool phone. I think they're kinda big. I dont know how I would be able to keep that large screen from getting cracked or all smudged up.

As soon as it's time for me to re-up (1 1/2 years), I may get one. By then the price should be around $100.

Ipod's don't seem to come down in price...they just build a better one.

Too big to carry around, would rather put that money into my car as well and carry around a basic small phone.

Ok scratch that...I want it.

No way will it go down that much in price. These are priced at $499 for the 4 gig, and $599 for the 8 gig...

Having said that, I would love one but I have many other better things to pay for before that. They do look pretty sweet.

It will go down, probably not that far though. A few weeks after I bought my motorola Q with Verizon, it went down like 100 bucks in price. GAY.

I would love to have one. My current contract is up in August.

But I do not want to switch to AT&T because they have horrible service in my area.

Otherwise, I would really consider it.

Your "free" phone that you get from a provider will run you about $150 MSRP. They wont be $500 forever. AT&T will, eventually, take pay for some of the cost knowing that they will make it all back and then some from your 2 year contract and any other peripherial services you may be paying for.

Plus, I highly doubt the Iphone will stay a AT&T exclusive phone for a very long time. It limits their market far too much (Apples). Just like the Razr, they'll be introduced to other service providers when later versions are released with new features.

A couple of years ago this phone was over $400. It now shows a price of $349 with an online price of $99.
The 8525 will do the same thing. It's already dropped since a year ago and a year from now it'll be in the same place as the 8125, $99.
The iPhone will follow in the same steps as every other phone has.

It's Apple, folks... when's the last time they slashed prices on the iMac or Powerbook or iPod? Never. Maybe because people buy them anyways. Also, I've read and heard that there are no discounts to be offered with the new iPhone, even if you start a new 2 yr plan.

Pricing is set by the manufacturer/producer, not the retailer. Cingular and Apple have a deal just to sell the phone for their service. That is all. When you get those "free" phones from Cingular, it's because the manufacturer of the phone has agreed to it, but the money actually comes from the retailer (i.e Cingular) not the manufacturer (i.e Samsung). With a head-turner phone like this, Apple will not likely allow any price cuts for quite some time... because it reduces their profitability on the product.

I will really be surprised if the price drops off on these anytime soon.

X2 .. In Phoenix, nothing beats Verizon, AT&T is one of the WORST services out here, the very bottom being SPRINT of course!

ATT&T offering the Iphone at a lower price doesnt affect the profitability of the phone. Apple still gets their $500 or w/e per unit. If anything, by ATT&T offering the iphone at a lower price it only expands the market of the iphone. More people will be able to buy them, so more people will do so. There wont be a drop in price for some time but prices will come down eventually.

The amount of technologhy in that phone along with labor hours, that price is going to stay high for awhile!
