Can any of the mods give reason why this IP can't post anything?

24.155.12.27

Arcx is having issues trying to post.

Thanks!

Yep, alright then, it's just my home IP.

Suddenly it says that the IP is banned and I cannot post or register. This IP at work is fine though, and it's obviously not an account ban.

It says I can email the webadmin at GPN, but I know we haven't seen or heard from any admins in awhile, and that they're usually a bit difficult to get ahold of. Sorry if posting this here is a problem, I ran out of immediate options. Feel free to remove it and PM me while I'm still on an operational IP.

Unfortunately, I can't help you on this issue. Neither Herc or myself have the power to ban and as you've already noted, Brian has basically fallen off the face of our world.

I don't have a clue as to what happened.

Crud. I never knew if you guys had that power, but that answers that question!

The only thing I can think of that could have happened is that a similar IP was banned by a broad command (IE banning an IP starting with 24.155), and it caught mine as well but .. Even that idea doesn't float since I don't see why anyone here would get banned unless it was one of the spambot posts.

And to my knowledge, there hasn't been one that recently.

Thanks for responding so quickly, Bobby!

Isn't there a way to change your IP?
For some reason I thought changing your IP was something that can be done.
I dunno, maybe someone who's more computer savy can chime in.

Disconnect power from your modem for a few seconds then let it reconnect. Chances are you'll have a new IP, but you'll still be in the same 'block' of 24.155.x.y probably.
You could use a free proxy server. Theres tons of them. Google it.

The IP our router requests from the ISP is always the same, from what I've seen. It will lease different network IPs to the computers in our house, so those change, but the IP under it all that's connected to the ISP won't change. And that's the one that's banned.

I already thought of using a proxy, I'd just rather not if it can be fixed. This was more trying to figure out what happened than asking what to do if it couldn't be fixed.

Usually there's a way to force the modem to get a new IP. I'll have to look it up and get back to you on that though.

As a former cable Internet installer, unplug your cable modem for a minimum of 12 hours to get a new IP lease. If that does not do it, you can call the cable company and request a new IP but they will either just ignore you or tell you the smae thing, unplug your modem for 12+ hours.

If his IP is getting blocked, doing anything to the router will not affect the IP he gets from the cable company..the best bet is to unplug the modem for a day and hope a new IP is given.

Typically there is a way to release an IP and then renew. When you release an IP the server doesn't keep it in reserve for when you reconnect within a certain time period.

This probably isn't the case for all instances, but it's worth looking into if the issue persists.

Yeah, that release/renew hasn't given me a new one before. It just acquired the same one it had.

Edit: ..... And now I'm not banned. Thanks guys.
